'03 XJ6 Wiper arm eating the bonnet edge?
Hello folks. Long time listener, first time caller.
I picked up my XJ back in September and I'm slowly getting round to dealing with all the niggling little issues. The current one is a bit confusing so I hope one of you lovely people can offer advice.
My wipers froze to my screen last week. I turned on the heated screen, scraped the side windows and when it was all defrosted, headed off. Having worked perfectly before, now the wipers were missing a patch in the middle of the sweep in front of the steering wheel. When they were vertical they contacted perfectly and when the were parked they contacted perfectly. The old Bosche are blades were a bit old so I got some replacements and drowned the hinge in oil and gave it a wiggle.
Still not working properly.
With the help of an unwilling 8 year old volunteer, I watched the wiper through its arc. While I could see the blade not touching, a more immediate issue was the fact that the wiper was rubbing against the bonnet edge and hald eaten a chunk away.
I've tried reseting the arm but it was on the spindle properly. So my thoughts are the linkage isn't mounted properly or the arm is knackered (or the wrong one)
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Cheers,
James

I agree. Why not take both arms off and compare them. If they're OK both, then you have a problem with the drive and fixing that is apparently a real PITA according to a Jaguar independent shop I once used. They were very good but ceased trading about 3 years ago.

Are the arms identical for both sides?

I popped the wiper off again to check it and also had a quick look at another XJ6 up the road. It's definitely the mechanism that's come loose.
Sadly, I'm time poor enough that I'll get a local garage to sort it. I'll get the tracking and abs sensors checked at the same time.
Thanks folks.
