Default 04' VDP Bluetooth question........again.

I know that I am new here, but I think that there has to be a way to be more clear about what characteristics dictate if you have bluetooth or not. For instance my vehicle is an 04' VDP. I purchased the vehicle with what looks like prewiring for a cell phone in the arm rest. There is a cradle there, but the dealer said there was no cell phone when he got the car in. I have done research on the web that stated that some vehicles may have been prewired but no phone was purchased. Then I read that the original phones were crappy and some people had bluetooth installed, and on and on. Here is the story for me, I have an 04' VDP, I have no phone in the cradle, no OE Jaguar phone in my possesion, but the screen says phone in use, mute or replace phone to continue hands free. I have microphones all over the place in the headliner, and one that looks like it was wired after the fact right next to the sunroof / domelight console. I pressed the phone button and now the message I stated before is stuck on the screen even after a ignition cycle. Someone please come forward and clear this up once and for all.

Hi Anton,

First, lets clear the microphone thing. What you see all over the headliner are not microphones, but passenger sensors. The mic you see next to the dome light is the one connected to the phone.

The phone system in 04 and later XJ models consists of a few pieces. Firs there is the PSE module - it's mounted in the trunk and is the main component of the phone integration. It's the most priciest of all. From what you describe, looks like you have the PSE installed. The way to check is to press the phone button - if it says "phone not fitted" you don't have one. If it says "phone in use" you have one, but it can not communicate with the handset, so it's stuck.

The other piece is the microphone - looks like you have that as well. In the first version the mic is in the overhead console, but due to voice quality issues, Jaguar came up with a new mic that is mounted on the side - looks like you have that one.

The last piece is the "phone wiring module" this is a piece that is hooked between the PSE and the actual phone - you may or may not have one. This was designed to accommodate a few different phone wiring types. This is mounted in the center console.

If you want to install bluetooth, you need a "bluetooth antenna" - actually a replacement for the "phone wiring module", that has a bluetooth radio in it. The price is very reasonable - about $150 and it's easy to install.

The bad news is that some old versions for the PSE module don't work with the bluetooth adapter and if you have to replace that, its quite pricy. The install itself is very easy and you may find a PSE on eBay.

Your dealer should be able to shed more light on the subject, they can check the PSE revision as well.

Hello Veffremov,

First let me thank you for clearing up those questions that I had. I was pulling my hair out and was running out of strands to pull. You are correct on all points that you stated. I now have a clear picture of what I have and what I don't have.

So in order to get Bluetooth I need to purchase then install the Bluetooth antenna and I should be all set.

Another quesion is why does it seem that most of the original phones that came with these cars are missing? Is it because they were analog and pretty much useless on todays' digital networks? Also is there anywhere posted on the forum of photos of the Bluetooth module location, maybe what systems look like whenthey are dfitted with Bluetooth, and when they are not? (I am a visual learner). I think this would clear up alot of confusion as well.

Check the instalation instructions for the different phone options. Go to the "hand book download" site http://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/extf...prod/index.jsp. Select vehicle: "XJ Range", Document type "accessory fitting instructions" - way on the bottom. Hit the "continue" button. Open the "All years" menu, and select ICE/Technology filter.

Example document:
"XJ Bluetooth Upgrade - 4 Zone - North American Markets Only" - the name says it all.

Default Another data point

I have an 04 XJ8, with the VIN ending G24349. It also has the factory Motorola V60 AT&T analog phone (i.e totally useless now). The PSE is marked 2W93 19K350-AA (this is a C2C18510). Apparently this PSE doesn't work with the BT adapter.

I was told I needed the folowing modules:-
PSE Module C2C34515 (older is C2C25674 but will work) 1x43-19k350 $592.80
Bluetooth Module C2C 39062 (older is C2N3689) 2W93-14B409 $212

I can confirm that PSE model # C2C22321 or C2C18510 will not work. I have been looking for the right PSE module for ages, so far without success, I have yet to see one on ebay.

The "2W93-19K350-AA" number is the key. I think these are called "engineering numbers". The first number is the platform code, the second - the module ID, the third is the revision.

So you need:
PPPP-19K350-AD or higher, I'm not sure about -AC they may or may not work.

For PPPP, you can have 1x43, 2W93 (XJ and X-Type I think), 2R83 (S-Type).

You may also need a new D2B optical harness. My jag had an extra optical connector - next to the amp, but I had to redo the harness when I added the voice module. If you don't have the voice module there are 3 lines for the microphone that need to be bypassed on that connector. Jag has a proper plug for about $15, but you can simply use 3 wires.

They occasionally show up on ebay, so keep looking. You can get better luck from ebay.uk.co, but shipping is a bit steep. If you do the install yourself, you may still need the dealership to reconfigure the modules so they properly talk to each other. I was lucky and mine worked, but this is the exception not the rule.

PS: does someone has the ability to convert part numbers to engineering codes and vise versa?
