Default 04 XJ8 headlight retaining clip

Whatever you do--do not lose one of these. I dropped one into the Jaguar abyss (chassis) of apparently no return. Called the dealer...they can't get them anymore...Jag company answer buy the whole headlight assembly. Parts guy in Nashville checked a couple of places for me to no avail. I have tried some like Coventry West...they do not have any. I need to find a wrecked car. Not an easy task. Called one national parts place to see if he could check his directory of other places if he doesn't have one....his cost over $100.00 if he can find it...I told him I wanted two and his price was HIGH! Ridiculous. Of course I am in the need and he isn't plus he was by his self. Open to any ideas....if anyone has them please contact me. In the interim, I've got to disassemble or crawl under if anyway (didn't look like it last night) to see if I cna find this thing.
Thank you very much,
Bill

Have you tried to drop a magnetic wand into the abyss and retreive the part? It is magnetic and will stick if the magnet gets close.

Funny thing. At the time I could not see but a tiny glimmer of the clip--I did try many times to fish it out with a magnet just as you described but to no avail. What I was seeing was surrounded by hoses and it was such a tiny glimmer just could not make contact. I drove the car the next day and I guess somewhere along the day I must have hit a bump significant enough to bounce it up more. That night when I got home with a longer magnet I checked to see if by chance I could get it and was surprised to see it. Managed to fish it out....thank goodness! since I could not find these from Jaguar suppliers to include the dealer in Nashville my only other option if I couldn't get it was to fabricate one myself. I would love to have at least one extra. When I went to put it on this time I did what I should have done in the first place and stuffed a shop rag in open spaces so it would not drop down again. I know better and don't know why I didn't do this the first time...got in too big of a hurry I guess.

I use wire coat hangar to make one for my lost one. Works like a charm.
