Default '04 XJ8 Mild Transmission Slip

Good Morning Chaps,

I have begun to notice a slight transmission slip then jerk but only when taking off from a rolling stop. On the flip side there is no problem at all when taking off from a complete stop. I've searched some transmission issue threads but could not really find information on this particular issue. Could this mean that the transmission is on it's way out?

The car is an '04 XJ with 92k miles with no tranny leaks and tranny service done at around 65k miles.

Thank you,

Rob

I had an 04 that did that all the time. If I recall correctly, there was a software update from the dealership that would cure it.

I had the same problem with an 05 XJR. Flushed out the transmission with fresh fluid and problem solved.

If you have 50k miles or better without fresh trans fluid my money is on this easy fix.

My plan of attack very soon. My transmission is overall fairly smooth after fixing a mild vacuum leak, but there is room for improvement.

I'd go for a transmission filter/pan replacement, and while the pan is off, have whoever replace the electrical connector/oring plastic assembly (very common area for fluid leaks) and have a full trans flush (flame suit on for flush) along with a ECU reflash. Sometimes you just have to go the full monte to make the biggest difference.
