Default 07 Plate XJ8 Bluetooth Connection, no voice output.

Hi,

Hoping this forum can help me out.

My Grandpa has on 07 XJ8 V8 SE and he has paired his phone via the car's Bluetooth and the audio works fine. However, the person on the other end cannot hear him. We don't think it's a microphone fault as the on board voice control still works fine.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I am not 100% sure, but I recall that Jaguar added an additional microphone for the hands free because sometimes the audio quality with the microphone of Jaguar Voice was bad. The microphone for the hands free is the one that you can see on the headliner.

I seem to remember that voice control still uses the microphone integrated into the overhead console.

It's the only explanation I have that would explain the symptoms you have and it would lead again to a fault of the microphone.

Best regards,

Thomas

It just came to my mind...

If you remove the overhead console, the external microphone on the headliner should be plugged into the overhead console. Try unplugging the microphone and see what happens if you place a call. If you can be heard again, it means that my assumption is correct and that the micro integrated into the overhead console took over the phone function, as well.
Why I am suggesting this? My car is an earlier one that did not yet have the bluetooth connection, only the built-in telephone with hands free. When I converted the car to bluetooth, I bought the additional micro, and I saw that it could be plugged into the overhead console. In the end I never installed it, because up to now the audio quality is good at both ends of a phone call.

Maybe the attached documents help, as well. Don't be irritated by the one document being for the S-Type, the installation in the X350 is exactly the same.

Best regards,

Thomas
