Default 1,000 mile trip; flawless

Greetings. Just returned from a 1,000 mile round-trip from Cincy to North Carolina in the 2005 VDP. Since I'm usually anxious (hence my screen name), and I recently had a front air shock blow, I was a little concerned about taking her. However, the car performed flawlessly. The car is sooooo smooth, beautiful, and posh inside. And I averaged right about 27mpg on premium gas. A couple of the relatives we met with commented how beautiful it was. The wife said she had always wanted a Jaguar and loved it. I suggested she take a serious look.
I've had the VDP for almost a year now (just turned 70k miles), and I have to say - if you are considering one, get a good inspection, bank a few bucks for repairs & maintenance, and go for it. I'm actually trying to talk my better half into one also, but she's just not interested. I'm happier each passing month with my decision. I look forward to hitting 150k miles or more (yes, I expect maintenance costs.)
Kudos to those on this forum who truly had a big part in my decision.

Hi Jim, glad you had a great trip to NC. My wife has a 2007 XK and she loves the car probably more than me! I am holding to purchase a 2004 XJR-S at the moment if the dealer meets my price. The sticking point is that it has 105000 miles on her, but up until Nov last year the car was looked after by my local main dealer ( funny but the car is being sold 100+ miles away in Charlotte) my dealer says its a good car and I have seen the list of work the car has had done in the last 2 yrs total 5 thousand dollars inc all new suspension and brakes. Anyway it's good to hear from someone that wants to go over 100000 miles on there car and does not think that at that magic number the car will not turn into a pumpkin or spontaneously combust! The XJR will not be my daily driver just a play car and will prob see under 5000 milesvavyear if I get it. Anyway congrats on your trip hope you enjoyed NC

Jim,

Sounds like a great trip. It makes a change to read a post about a Jaguar that's running perfectly!

Good buying advice there.

Congratulations on the trip Jim and some good advice.

Robert, funnily my wife has no concerns on "my" S TYpe turning into a pumpkin, but seems to think "her" LeBaron is at risk!

Good news for a change! That's great.
I'm making my second trip this summer from Ottawa Canada to Washington DC... Because like you Jim, I simply love the ride. (and I don't have to bother with the airlines, TSA or taxi drivers who don't take credit cars and insist on driving erratically;-)
