Default 1 month into ownership - looking at upgrades

Hello,

Its been almost a month since I took delivery (see my Gallery/Garage) and I am more than delighted with my new toy, so I am starting to look at some upgrades – in order of likeliness

Mesh Grille-

Have decided to go for this, just deciding which one, am looking at these 2:-

Jaguar XJ8 04-07 x350 Stainless Mesh Grille Grill | eBay?

Or

Jaguar 04-07 XJ6 XJ8 TOP Wire Mesh Grille Insert X350 | eBay

From searching the forums, I see several people have gotten the one from Mina Gallery (Top Link) and have been happy, curious as if anyone has gotten one from lower link – $30 isn’t much I know, but it pays for a couple of lunches!

UK front number plate

In the past I have put a UK front number plate on my car over here (my XJ40 that I did own) that matched my Texas Plate # - I have sourced a UK front plate holder – that is compatible with the Front Park Sensor – and someone who will make up a UK front number plate to match –

BUT on the other hand the front bumper is “clean” – i.e. no plate has been installed – I am torn at the moment on keeping the clean look and how hard it is to Drill that bumper. Before someone jumps in, yes I know TX requires front and rear plate, but I have not been stopped on it – with several cars – well at least not yet.

Anyway just curious as to other peoples opinions

4 Zone retrofit

The original owner checked almost all the boxes when they bought this car, except 2 – front headlamp wash and Warm Climate Package – the latter I could not believe!

I have a feeling I already know the answer to this but if you don’t ask…

Is it possible to Retrofit 4 zone climate – or does it involve extensive work ?

Anyway – any answers/help anyone can give would be appreciated

Hey there,
Adamesh are alway worth checking out too............simply type it into your browser and have a look for yourself.

As for the GB plate?

Have you considered simply having a GB plate made and then using the double sided 3M type tape to put it directly on to your bumper?

I've had this on my X type and various other cars including my current Audi A6.

If when it's time to change or sell the vehicle its simply a matter or carefully removing and then a quick buff and polidh and its as good as new.
The install also looks great with no screws etc covering letters, getting rusty and just looking plain bad
Just a thought

Thanks for the Link to Adamesh - nice, but it is 50% more than the Mina Gallery, before the shipping cost from Blighty. They have some other nice stuff though.

Plate - I have seen/read about others using the 3M tape, but as a temporary fit - so they can pass the inspection or for show- is it something that would work long term and in all weather heat/cold? Hate to lose it via falling off and causing some other damage elsewhere.

BUMP>>>>>>> Any more ideas / suggestions from those of you in the know?

Txbrit - The licence plates you see on my car are using a 3M tape derivitve and have been on my car for 5 years now. The back is a fairly flat surface, but the front bumper area is rounded and both plates have now been on for 5 years with zero issues. The only time they've ever came off is if I want them off.
Our temperature extremes here have been anywhere between 90 degrees in the summer and -20 degrees in the winter with lots and lots of rain thrown in.
Its a really clean look with no mounting brackets, no holes drilled in the bumper and no screws to go rusty on the plate itself and one I highly recommend..........its becoming more and more popular over here.

I've included some pics below to help show what I mean and hope it helps.

Look at the Blue Clio and you can clearly see the 2 screw holders ( thiswas prior to changing ) as against the plate stuck on to the Red Clio

Wife's Passat clearly showing the plate with 2 screw holders ( prior to changing ).....takes away from the clean look IMO

I only know of one car that had the 4-zone climate retrofitted, what a massive job....

Even if you got all the parts for free, it's days of labour to make it work.

Jim-

*Thank You*
for the pictures and follow up - that looks great, will investigate the 3M route - just need to make sure I can get the front sensor friendly number plate holder.

Cambo-

Thank you also, I had a feeling that was the case - but nothing ventured etc.

**************

Anyone care to give feedback on the mesh grilles? Anyone? Bueller?

I know people like the Mina Gallery one, anyone purchased this?

Jaguar 04-07 XJ6 XJ8 TOP Wire Mesh Grille Insert X350 | eBay

How did it look? how easy/hard to fit?
