Default 2002 xjr fuel pump....

well I got both pumps out and both don't work, they ohm out to 0.0. also tried jumper to battery and nothing.
I ordered some carter pumps on amazon, got some mechanical pumps that crossed to early chevy.. sent them back.
next I ordered some pumps from rockauto... they are similar but I don't like the fit, suplied rubber pieces not fitting in mount.
I then drove 100+ miles to a pick-a-part in Las Vegas. they had 5 1999-2002 xj8's and 2 xk8's (no r's but the pumps would work) anyway check them all and all had the fuel tanks removed....
the only cars in the whole place without fuel tanks. I asked the checkout and they said must have sold all of them, I then asked didn't they puncture the tanks to remove the fuel answer "yes".
well back home and just gonna jerry rig the rockauto pumps, they don't have the correct rubber mounts.,,will modify the ones that came with them and hopefully gonna be ok.
will install them when done if weather is good. been cold and had some snow, car is outside on gravel drive.....

any used pump is junk, the impellers swell from fuel and get stuck with age. i did a set on a car with 2000 miles no joke.

I agree that used pumps are risky, but also understand you are trying to get new but having a hard time finding them. Surprised the yard you went to didn't offer to try to find the part somewhere else. Most salvage yards that are worth their salt are a part of a big Nationwide network of other salvage yards. There's even some search engines online to basically scope out parts from many different yards across the country. Worth a shot if you really have to.

Edit: Did a quick search at a yard I use often and looks like they have many actually. You'll have to redo the search as it won't let me send the results.

Worth a call at least. They are super busy all the time, but thats bc they've been around for decades and have a crap load of parts. I think George, the owner, is a bit partial to Jags as he has more than a usual amount for a yard his size.

Just wondering if any of the electrical actual pumps available can be used?
The base 4.2's have several aftermarket pumps that will work.

Delphi Fuel Pump Kit DEL38-K4014 For Ford Lincoln Mercury Mazda Jaguar Nissan
US $26.00
Sold by:

This one works well in my 04 XJ8 base with a singal pump.
It came with a premade wiring harness.
The connectors were already attached.
So it was a simple plug & play set up.

thanks for the replies, as for the 2004 fuel pumps they are in an drop in assy, the older ones are mounted in the fuel tank (pump/filter only)

I checked out the used parts link and looks like they have a few of them... the Pick-a Part did offer the call their second lot but I had already checked them, no jaguars.
will give them a call to see if the pump/mount are sent. that is the biggest issue the new pump isn't clocked the same at the bottom and the new rubber isnt correct but the old won't fit also...

Hi powellwm,

Given the amount of work involved if I have to do it again, I would never consider installing salvaged fuel pumps in any Jaguar.

Were the pumps you ordered from Rock Auto the Delphi units? The Delphi kit Wingrider used is a good option.

Cheers,

Don

I remember reading on one of the Jag foums that the XJR pumps have a higher flow rate than standard and you can get error codes with pumps that cannot keep up. New pumps from Jag are very not cheap!

Wouldn't the second pump take up the slack?
Believe the XJR pump pressure is about 60 psi, the XJ8's at 55
