Default 2003 XJ8 Vanden Plas

2003 XJ8 VDP
Tried opening trunk with release button inside cabin.
Tried pressin trunk button but the lock re-sets itself when I do that.
Tried key but it does not open trunk.
In reading posts it looks like the only option is the long screwdriver through the bottom right screwhole of licence plate.
I tried that. Is there something I am looking for when I put the screwdriver in ? Thx

Why does the key NOT work???
I use my key several times a year to be SURE that it never happens when I need it.

I would suggest using spray lubricant and working the lock for a while before giving up.

Success ! I'm in the trunk. I re-tried the key however could not get in. After that I was going to drill a hole behind the licence plate but thought to try the screwdriver thru the bottom right screw hole. Magically it popped open. We discovered that one of the wire rods that are attached to the blue plastic sleeve had popped off. Once we secured it the trunk button started working again.

One of the wire rods had popped out of the blue clip.
