Default 2004 Jaguar XJ8 Moving Slow And Smoke from one Exhaust

Hey guys,

I have a 2004 Jaguar XJ8 with a 4.2L V8, we changed the Radiator and the bottom metal line was not plugged in and was throwing oil out I can't tell if it's motor or transmission fluid if for some reason, the transmission started having trouble shift into gears and it has to be revved high for the car to move, it also refuses to let me have full power. there is white smoke is coming from the left side of the exhaust, I also get a message that says transmission fault, if anyone could tell me what's going on I would be so thankful

Welcome to the forum JaguarXJ84.2L,

I've copied this question from your Intro to X350 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Transmission fluid is usually a different color to engine oil.......unless of course they are both dirty. Then they would look very similar.

If it was transmission fluid and you lost some that would explain transmission issues.

However that does not explain the smoke in the exhaust.

Sure it does.... The smoke is from the oil spilling into the headers which are hot. The oil burns and thus the smoke.

Yes you are correct if it spilled on the headers. I misread the post I thought he said coming "out" of the left exhaust.
