An excellent suggestion, jackra_1. Especially given how inexpensive coils are. The coils Jaguar is currently supplying are the Airtex-Wells / FordMotorCompany 5C1420, which are over $100 each from a Jaguar dealer but only $31.79 each at RockAuto. I've replaced three of our coils so far and keep two spares in the trunk.

I am having trouble with my XJR. When driving like an old lady the car runs fine seems to go through all the gears ok. As soon as you hit the gas the transmission kicks out to neutral. I don't know if it is a transmission problem or something else. Anyone else have this problem before?

My car was giving a p1643 some of the time. I would suggest replacing the plugs if it has not been done lately and checking the coils. My car had a bad spark plug and a bad coil. After those were fixed no more transmission problems. What a relief, I though I was going to drive my car to the junkyard. They quoted me a transmission price from Jaguar of $14,000 more than I had paid for the car.
