Mijohn,
"Please elaborate?" I don't understand what you want from us Jonh. We have addressed the purchase of this car, pro & con, in this thread and others you have started. If you think a price reduction negates all the negitive arguments against buying this car, go for it. At some point, you have to make a decission.
It could be that a low price allowes you to get in the car of your dreams in spite of all other factors. Some of us have been there too. If you buy this car you really must keep us informed on how it turns out. Buy the way, do you have any idea how much it costs to repair even the most minor of air shock or compressor failuers? I have to admit that I'm courious how a 200K mile car will hold up.

The Air Suspension Fault could be any number of things: failed air compressor, failed air springs, failed relay, failed sensors, a multitude of cracked/broken hoses running all over the car connecting the various components, or in some cases a wild goose chase! Air compressors and air springs are costly, and diagnosing the problem could be as well. The repair costs could be almost as much as the price of the car.
For $4500 you could get a top notch Series III XJ6 or XJ40 with less miles! And there's a lot less on the those cars to worry about.
The 04 XJ8 is prone to all sorts of issues because it was the first model year. Its quite apparent that its served well enough because its got to 192k, but how much life do you suspect it has left with that kind of mileage?? Without any prior service history records, you're completely in the dark. And even if a certified mechanic gives it a clean bill of health, that doesn't mean that something catastrophic won't fail next week.
I just think your money would be better served someplace else.

To me what it fails on is not the air suspension fault, it is the low oil level and the lack of service records to indicate it has been looked after.
If you were just buying a car for tootling around at weekends, I would say go for it, but it cannot be considered a serious all-use, all-weathers car with that mileage, and lack of information. It has got to 195k miles, though, so it can't have been all that bad !

I'd say go for it if you have cash and really want it. Your insurance will be cheap and if you have to abandon ship on the car, you should get a 2-3k at least in parting it out.
As others have said the air suspension fixes could get costly and it sounds like no-dealer is going to narrow it down and fix only what is broken. Jaguar repair triage is expensive to say the least. Most of the 3rd party mechanics won't be able to service it either.

Forget the XJ40, go get a beautiful Series III XJ6! You can find a real fine example for that price. I know that if I had $4500 to spare right now, thats exactly what I would do. Find a prime candidate for $3000, new royal blue paintjob, chrome wire rims and whitewall tyres!

Most Jaguar Members hate square lights and find XJ40s not as attractive as other Jags too . Each has their own opinion and I pay respect that .
What you feel about Serie IIIs are like what I feel about XJ40s .
X350 is not my style but my earlier post is not about my feelings ,just heads up our member from buying a lemon and endless complaints hence
Now, back to the topic and I wish he makes a good decision about to pull the trigger or walk away for that car

I love the square headlights. Kinda makes the car look like a 1969 Aston Martin DBS (the car George Lazenby as James Bond drove in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"). The DBS itself doesnt have square lights, but the entire grill area has a more square-like shape, like the XJ40. I think the XJ40 looks strange with the circular lights.
Anyway, will the OP please let us know what he has decided??

...."The XJ40 became the most tested car at Jaguar completing 1.24 million miles in Arizona (summer heat testing), 1.1 million miles in Canada (winter testing), 1.8 million miles in Australia (heat and dust testing), in addition to 0.75 million miles on the high-speed Nardo circuit in Italy and other general road tests."....
Hah now beat that ^
If XJ40 has dual fuel doors I'll be getting one for sure xD

Well i wish our Jags had two fuel doors because its kinda stupid to wait people to fill their tanks and you cant use the other pump because your fuel door is on the right side and then all of a sudden a stupid lexus driver comes and parks next to that empty pump fills his tank as you wait for the stupid bmw driver to fill his tank up and yada yada, you know the story and i know some stations have the retractable pumps but still not all of them have those kinda pumps =D
