What I need to know is has anyone else ever did a trans fluid change on such a high mileage car? If sos did you have any issues? Thanks in advance.

I acquired a 2005 VDP approximately 2 years ago at 125,000 miles. It was shifting perfectly at the time, but had not received a transmission service. I had a fluid and pan change using Lifeguard 6 and have had no problems since. I'm now at 155,000 miles.

I had mine done at 90,000 miles, recommended service interval, and have had no issues since.

I brought my mechanic an OEM ZF Filter and a case of Mercon SP (same stuff Ford uses for their cars with the same transmission) purchased from Autozone for about $7.00/bottle. The mechanic charged me one hour time for the service as I supplied the parts. He had never done a Jaguar X350 before, but had no issues. He basically said something like "it is just a typical ZF transmission."

I wouldn't worry about changing the fluid and filter at 130k. If the transmission is in rough shape now it will be in rough shape afterwards. Unless the car has been beaten too death with lots of launches and start/stops clean fresh fluid at 130k will keep it working for a long time.

You may want to change out some of the seals while the filter/pan is down - numerous write ups on the forum about it. It will basically add parts plus 10 minutes of time.

The older guy running the parts counter, asked what i was buying the Mercon S P for.
Said that the Jags trans, was a modified truck trans, that they sold very little of it anymore.

OK, he's just ignorant. Waste of time talking to him, sadly.

Yeh, it's a truck transmission ... as used on ... Rolls-Royce, Bentley, BMW, Jaguar, Range Rover, Aston Martin, Maserati and Audi ... 'trucks'.

Modified trans or so the story goes
I do remember that truck parts were often used because they were better made for abuse
These transmissions are said to be very strong,
W T F he could be right, i don't know, for sure, do you????

It's not a modified truck transmission, the 6hp was introduced around 2000 and designed for high performance cars. Of course it's a robust device, with the torque that the engines in RRs, Jags, Aston Martins etc produce it has to be, but if it were a truck transmission then the ratios would be considerably wider.

Mercon SP is made by Shell (in Houston TX, if memory serves) and it's made to the spec (Shell M-1375.4) that ZF issued when they designed the 6HP. It's also made by Shell in Europe but marketed, expensively, by ZF as LG6. However in North America it's marketed, more cheaply, by Ford as SP (Ford as a big outfit must been have able to drive a harder bargin with ZF in the US than European car manufacturers could do individually in Europe). In recent years Shell have been marketing it in Canada (as Shell 'MSP' ?) under their own name.

Sorry, but counter guy (who probably doesn't sell much for RRs etc) was just showing his ignorance.

Yes I do. It's not for trucks. The guy was wrong, wrong, wrong. Can I be clearer?

The confusion arises because Ford developed transmissions such as the 6R60 and the 6R80, based on the design of the ZF 6HP26 transmission. The 6R80 was used in F series trucks, big SUVs etc . Mercon SP works fine in ZF 6HP26 , Ford 6R60 and Ford 5R80 transmissions.
