Default 2004 XJR available for parts or project 07052

A hit-and-run driver crushed the LR corner of my beloved slate blue XJR. Far more to repair than she's worth as a car, but thought I'd check with this group in case anyone can use for parts or as a project vehicle. It has about 75K miles, new spring suspension, recent transmission and recent 19" tires. Still drives (though making ominous noises). Exterior/interior good share, other than the crushed corner. In West Orange, NJ. email: nick (at) karp (dot) come

Hi Don, No obvious way to reply to a private message. I'm new to the forum, so perhaps permissions haven't been set yet. In any event, no idea what a 75K XJR of that vintage should be worth with serious, but localized, damage. Clearly less than the ~$7K KBB, hopefully more than the $650 a local salvage yard offered (less than the tires!). Advice much appreciated.

Except the damaged corner. I need the dash vent covers. I need find some in better shape than mine.two are triangular, one round.
I should buy yours and give to my son. All four corners will match by end of the year.

Hi Nick,

I really only need the engine, but at the right price might consider purchasing the entire vehicle, but I'd hate to have to pay to ship it to Tennessee if it were possible to drive it. You mention that it is making ominous noises - are they from the engine or from the rear end?

Cheers,

Don

Prior to the hit on the rear the car made no noise, but did have transmission issues: fine on the highway, but trouble settling on a gear, particularly climbing hills soon after starting up.

After the hit there is a background noise, audible in the driver's seat, that wasn't there before. Happy to call or video-chat from the car itself so you can inspect and listen - I have no idea what it is, but I've only driven in and out of my driveway to unblock other cars.

Don,
There's your car. 75K on the motor. Many of us would probably help recover cost, as we all need something.

Yes, you're probably right. I wish I had a place to store it. Actually, I need a place to store two unhappy '04 XJRs....

I'd be happy to do that too, but we don't want to post our contact info in this public forum. I wonder if you've made enough posts to be able to respond to my original private message now?

I might be interested in the spring suspension. How recent was the conversion done?
Thanks,
Griff

If you're still parting out. I would be interested in the center console electronics w/control module, as well as the Nav system and CD changer in the trunk and any control modules.

Hi Nick,

I think you may have to have made 10 posts before you have private messaging capability. If you will click the "THANKS" button on seven posts by others, either in this thread or other threads, that may get you past the 10 post limit (Thanks count as posts). Then you will be able to communicate with me via private message so we can exchange personal contact info.

Thanks!

Don
