Default 2004 xjr back up parking assist system, phone

Not sure where/how to get to the x350 tech section, so if there is one can someone kindly point me in the proper place to post. I didn't see any sub sections.

Two issues or questions. Have phone buttons on the console, but no idea of how/what they might control. Not aware of a phone. There appear to be 2 small speakers/ Mics? up by the sunroof/light control. Is there a download or module that one needs, besides having a phone that is compatible with a 11 year old car...LOL ?

Second I have the touchscreen/navigation system, but have no audible or visual indicators when I back up. Bumper appears to be fine and I would suspect the detectors in it are probably ok for that reason. Have no idea on where to start to see if something has been turned off or burnt out or ??

Instead of clicking where you did, scroll down about 10 more forums and there it is!

Do as JagV8 suggests then look for " Bluetooth capable? 2004 XJR".

Thanks!

For backup sensors, on my car with engine off I put it in reverse and, if working, each makes a quiet ticking sound. There's a separate sounder for the system. No beeps = disconnected / no fuse / etc. No ticking at all = it's disabled in a big way like no fuse.

Have you actually got a mobile phone in the car ? Look in the cubby box in the centre console, and there should be a phone connected to a line. If not, there is no phone, and you have to supply one. The early cars like yours had no Bluetooth facility. On my car, (2003), it is a Motorola (remember them ?), with monochrome screen and user-hostile user interface.

Remember the car is essentially a 2001/2 design, so mobile phones of those years apply. So once you put in a compatible phone with a SIM card it should all start to work. In my case, I had the phone but no SIM, so bought a cash-only SIM, inserted it, and away it went. I actually phoned the wife today using it !

If you have the phone setup, you can pull it out and add in a Bluetooth module in its place. I had installed this in my 2004 XJR and it worked quite well. Also, you can pull the sunroof control module and see if there's a microphone installed. Many of us ditched the built-in microphone in favor of a external microphone which attaches to the headliner next to the sunroof module as it works better than the default one.

Of course, the best way to find out if you have everything is to press the phone button and see what it says on the Nav display. If you don't have the components, it'll says something like "Phone not fitted" on there.

There are plenty of threads on this topic. Good luck and welcome to the boards.

I was able to befriend the parts guy at the Jag dealership and found that I don't have a blue tooth option and I did look in the center compartment and there were no jacks or sockets for a phone. The car was pre-wired for voice activation though. Not sure what that benefit might be? Anyone want to chime in that has it and if it is worth buying a module to use it?

I'll have to do some hunting around for a fuse location as the parking assist doesn't make a beeping at all and there is ( if it did display like modern cars) nothing that lights up on the navigation/display on the console. Thankfully the turning radius is much better than the battle ship lke turning radius of my '99 VP.

I know on my VP there were something like 5 different fuse panels which was ridiculous....Thanks I went hunting though the 2004 electrical diagram/list and didn't see the fuse name called out in a first pass for the parking assist. Page 4-37 of owners handbook doesn't seem to shed any light either. As I only have one button up there ( rear window screen) it indicates that I don't have the front parking sensors.

Default Vacm

I installed VACM about 4-5 months ago in my XJR however I do not use it often. My main reason for installing was to use Navigation fully without having to stop.

I went thru the "voice training" but still have problems in getting my commands recognized properly when using the navigation.

It works very well choosing CD tracks to play or radio stations.

I do have problems remembering the commands as I just do not use it often enough.

Unsurprisingly the memory goes after the jag..... So it sounds like the voice activation has better utility for radio and cd activities then? Navigation though, while a bit of a problem with the voice recognition is the other reason, so that sounds good. What did your module cost? Was it worth the cost given the limitation?

I forget the price I paid however I do remember a high shipping cost as I bought it from the U.K. At the time I could not find one in the U.S.
I installed it myself so that just cost me my time.

I think I may well go thru the "voice training" again. Using it for the CD, both, and the radio is pretty good.
BTW My microphone is inside the overhead console and not on the outside.

The part # 2R8F 114B292-AD is the item I purchased. Which does not show up now when I do a search.

Searching on Jaguar Voice Activation Control does come up with a couple of items however.

I paid $225 including shipping. Just found the email.
