Hi everyone,

I purchased a 2004 XJR and the front passenger seat belt wasnt retracting properly. I was able to get a good working seat belt from a 2004 XJ Vanden Plas but mine has a CTS unit that plugs in and the one from the Vanden Plas does not. The airbag light comes on without this plugged in. Can i simply cut the cts unit off and plug it in? The airbag light turns off as long as its plugged in. Also what is the function of this unit. I called a Jaguar service department and they said it shouldn't make a difference and the CTS was just for the sporty R model

One reason that causes seat belts not to retract properly is dirt/grease that has built up on the belt due to being handled over years and years.
I had my driver seat belt that wouldn't retract, got a bucket of warm water and detergent, pulled the belt all the way out and soaked/cleaned and dried. Now it pops back no problem.
It might work for you and others rather than replacing the belt and mechanism.
