2004 XJR HELP!
Hello,
Irecently purchaseda 2004 XJR (Sil/blk/sepang wheels/29k miles)and I am on cloud 9! The blend of performance and luxury, is second to none. I traded in a e55 amg and don't miss it one bit. Actually I didmiss the gobs of torque,so Ipurchased the performance kit fromJaguarxp (pulley/air intake/exhaust) and had my localdealerinstall it yesterday.
Now to the problem...
Went to pick up the car this morning and they tell me that the car is running really lean i.e. rough idle, when pressing the accelerator the car just limps and loses power. The tech doesnt know what the problem is as these were simple bolt on itemswith the exception of the pulley but he said no problemsoccured during the install.
He also reset the computer and removed the terminals on the battery after the install.
Please help! I am a little worried whether this install damaged the car permanently. Does anyone with experience in these types installations have similar problems to mine?
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you,
Mike

Thanks for the reply.
The tech also mentioned that as well. Do you think by installing the original airbox should cure the problem?Secondly, I was researching upgrading the pulley on my e55, and the process called for the pulley upgradeAND the ECU mapping.Upon consulting with Jaguarxp, they told me that was not needed. Could it be also that the Jag's ecu must be remapped or revised to compensate for the additional boost?
I should have asked if the tech had experience in installing these parts; apparently his only experience is replacing a pulley ona pre-2003 xjr. He also ruined the existing pulley on my car stating that was the only way to remove the pulley. Is that true? This dealership has maintained my merc for a while and they only recently opened the jaguar division so they are relativelyinexperienced but this isunnerving...
I will call Jaguarxp on Mon to get some addtional answers. I will also post some pics once I get the car back.
Thanks again,
Mike

Only way to figure out problem with aftermarket parts is to work backward.
Easiest addon was the airbox. Start there. If doesnt fix, try another mod and reinstall the one that tested ok.
It can be along process and will get pricey as it goes along. I prefer to leave higher end cars as they came specifically due to the problems you are having.
I hop it works out for you.
Also, there is no mapping for your car as such. Some companies have a ECM map program but have heard good and bad.

RE: 2004 XJR HELP!
yeah i heard the early xjr just adapts to it by adding fuel... and drives fine.. but i haven't seen it on the newer version 4.2 super.. might half to tinker with the ECT sensor. to make the engine think it is colder so the ecu adds more fuel.. just a idea.. not sure if it will work tho.. if it was mine i wud leave the car alone as FJT said.

Thanks,
You know, more I think about this, I am beginning to agree with you. I will probably revert the airbox and pulley back to stock and just keep the mina exhaust. Do you think that the exhaust has anything to do with the problem I am having?
BTW, I really appreciate the advise. I should have checked before jumping the gun with the install.

The exhaust will be fine and sound good too. As long as the O2 Sensors are still in there, you should have no problems with exhaust only unless the tech installing messed up a sensor. That is unlikely though. I love the Sepang wheels btw. Just a little heavy at the end of the day and you got to do a tire rotation.....lol

Someone else advised to check on the map sensor to see if it was damaged during the install. Could that be the problem?
Yes, the sepang wheels are beautiful, however my car had some trim damage from the previous owner. So I was able to get the separate trim rings from a great company in the UK. The exchange rate hurt but the trims are perfect, I have not had the time to replace them though; first the car has to run!
If anyone needs the web info, please contact me.

The Map sensor on yours is at rear of engine and shouldnt have been anywhere near where they were working.
The mass air flow or MAF is of course possible that it was damaged. Ask the tech to swap it with a known good one real fast to make sure it is ok. Only takes a minute to swap it.

Well an update:
The filter in the intake was backwards. Apparently the MAF sensor requires the air move in a certain direction and the tech did not realize it. However, I decided to remove the intake entirely and revert back to stock just to be sure and everything is working fine. I have to say, the mina exhaust sounds great, not too loud but you can definitely hear it, a much sporting sound.
I cannot feel a major difference in the pulley, however itseems a bit more responsive. I will probably need more seat time to be sure.
Thanks everyone for the input.
