no alarms, it happens so fast that I haven't looked to see if the 'headlamps off' message appears in the bottom of the speedometer.

Default 05 xjr

I have same issue and am trying different delay settings, but does not appear to stop the flickering. When lights went off no alarms and no message. Very brief outage. On stock though, you have to press button very hard or several times to get scroll though of trip odometer, ranges, etc. Thanks.

Default HID turning off for 2 seconds then back on.

I am having he same problem on my 04 XJ8 with HID/XENON turning off for 2 seconds or so then righ back on. Since it is both lights I started small and replaced the relay, but no change. Going to check the connection to battery. Did you ever find out what was causing the problem?

Not really, I replaced the bulbs and that seems to have corrected most of the problems. I'm thinking that my remaining problems are in the switch. When they start acting up now (primarily flashing on/off on overcast days), I change the delay setting on the switch and it seems to fix the problem. Otherwise I'll just override the auto settings entirely by switching to ON or OFF. When they are on, they do seem to behave now.

My auto lamps seem to be on 24/7. I need to play with the switch.

Is there a way to disable the gps dimming from the headlights on?

Thanks in advance,

George

Try going into menu, settings, and look for the auto dim function and turn it off.

I just bought an '04 XJR, and the right headlight is flickering. I guess I'll try a new bulb and see if that fixes it. Curiously, although the car does not appear to have ever been in an accident, the driver's side headlamp assembly is clearly brand new. Maybe the previous owner had this problem on the left side first and the dealer just replaced the whole headlight.

@ George: Not saying that it doesn't exist, but I'm not familiar with an auto dimming feature on the 04's (at least not the US version). However, mine does have a 'driving light' or 'daytime light' (don't remember the name) that you can access through the vehicle menus on the touch screen. Basically, it turns on the lights anytime the engine is running. Easy to turn off/on when you find it in the displays.

Does the US X350 not have the Brightness/Contrast option in the standard menu (see attached)?

You can override the Auto setting by configuring your own Day, Night and Twilight settings.

I think we're talking about two different things. Yes, the US X350 allows you to configure the brightness of the touchscreen display, but I thought the question posted by "Androulakis" was with regard to the exterior lamps (headlights/taillights) being on all the time since he referenced a gps function that would auto-dim (I know that some cars have a feature that prevent the bright headlamps from coming on when the gps detects that you are in a city environment, just don't believe that the 04 XJRs will do it).
I was referencing the 'daytime running lamp' option that can be configured through the 'Vehicle Configuration' settings.

He appears to be asking if it was possible to stop the display dimming because his lights are on all the time which I think is controlled through the Brightness/Contrast menu.

If his light switch isn't broken then the root cause might be, as you said, that he has DRL option switched on.

Hey guys,

If I leave the XJR's headlight switch on auto, it seems that the headlights are pretty much on 24/7.

So my inital question was basically, is there a way to force the GPS display out of night mode. Got that part figured out. DRL option is off.

So then I realized on top of that I have a right HID light that flickers on/ off so I ordered a new set of bulbs from amazon and am hoping that will solve the problem there.

More to come..

Take care,

George

I replaced my 8 year old HID bulbs with new ones, and have not had a single flicker since. Your mileage may vary.

Take care,

George
