Default 2004 XJR Introduction

Having posted my required newbie info, it was suggested that I post some pictures of my new X350 which I am only too happy to do now that the sun has come out and I managed to get her cleaned! For any of you who follow BAT you may already be familiar with this car and its previous 2 owners. The last owner in particular was fastidious in his upkeep and I was delighted when the car arrived exactly as described. For a 20 year old car with 101k on the odometer it is in remarkable condition with only the smallest of battle scars. I can not imagine the very first owner had a much different impression when they drove it off the forecourt. While I live in the Northeastern United States I was born and brought up in the North East of Scotland and Jags were very much the aspiring car of the time. I have owned a couple of XK's previously but have always admired the XJ and this designation is my absolute favourite. I experienced the AJ34s in my 2006 (or 7 I can not remember) XKR of the same colour and it is a brilliant power plant.. In the XJ it is a little more refined and slightly down on HP but entirely appropriate for its statesman like presence. It is still a hooligan in a dinner jacket when needed. I take ownership of the car with the benefit of new air suspension shocks, compressor, and control arms / wishbones all round. It has also had a transmission fluid and pan change, supercharger service with replacement belts and pulleys AND a headliner replacement! Some have argued I paid too much for a 20 year car with 100k+ miles on it but I have founds very little correlation between miles and ownership experience over the years. A couple too many bourbons may have helped me get to the bidding finish line but 250 miles in and I am one happy auction winner!

I am no mechanic and I am already extremely grateful for all the information I have found on this Forum, i suspect I have barely scratched the surface of what is here. Regardless I will share the ownership experience in the hope that along the way it may prove a useful to someone.

Default Any Accidents?

Hi GBF,

Maybe it’s my eyesight failing me more and more these days or maybe it’s just the lighting in the pics - but was the passenger side resprayed by any chance. Just looks off in tones so again, just curious. Nonetheless, you have a great X350 with extra horses under the bonnet. It’s the type of vehicle you’ll never want to let go. Cheers!

Not to my knowledge but of course always possible, the carfax point to a minor scuffle to the front right back in 2015 but did suggest door or panel damage. I had not noticed but I will now of course be taking a closer look in various light! I am hoping this is a keeper, ticks a lot of boxes

Ahhh, makes sense. I see things that are off by a slight shade or tone and off my a slight mm or so due to my experience with art and design. She’s still a beauty and in the end, as long as you’re happy she ticks your boxes- enjoy her as long as you want!

besides, you can always freshen up the paint to even it all out in the future if you wish. It’s thought to match new paint with the original paint code, especially the lighter colors. Cheers mate, well done!

Welcome to the club and the forum. My Super V8 and I live very close to you in Pleasantville NY so feel free to reach out with questions or recommendations. I have had my car for 5 years and 30k miles with 135k miles total now. She has had her tantrums over the years but all is forgiven when each drive is a special occasion.

These cars will go over 200k miles no problem but there will be failures and expensive maintenance like any 20 year old luxury car.

PM me if you would like to have a chat about my experiences and advice about care and feeding.

Best Regards
Jeff
