Default 2004 XJR: Only daytime lights, no high beams, no fog lights, no computer cycle button

Greetings-

It seems that I have several issues with my 2004 XJR:
- Only the daytime running lights work, no matter where you turn the switch. They are always on and the dash/touchscreen dim accordingly. The DTRL indicator lights up on the dash.
- I have no fog lights, front or rear. Pressing either switch does nothing.
- I have no high beams when pushing the switch forward. Pulling it back activates the "flash to pass" feature, but that's it.
- Nothing happens when I press the button at the end of the stalk to cycle the computer.

All of this happened on my way home tonight. I haven't had the time to check fuses, relays, etc.

One thing of note: When I was wiggling the stock, occasionally the lights would flicker off. This leads me to think that there's a bad wire somewhere or just a bad stalk in general. I couldn't get the lights to flicker with any regularity or repetition, though.

I did a quick search and didn't find any post with this kind of issue, so I'm hoping that I'm not treading on old ground.

Thanks in advance!

It is probably the lighting switch stalk, but I'd wait for a second opinion.
There are a number of threads on the Forum but here's one

Do treat the airbag with respect - it can kill you.
BTW if you haven't already done so I strongly recommend downloading the JTIS - first 'sticky' at the top of this section.

Thanks, Steve! I saw that thread and it has some helpful info for the fuses and relays. I decided to create this thread since I have so many issues at once. I wouldn't mind having only one problem!

I think they are all 'stalkogenic'

Well, while driving home through town this evening, I was messing with the stalk. I had it pushed forward (for high beams) and when I took a turn, the lights went out. I pulled back the stalk and nothing happened, so I pulled it back for high beams (since I knew that feature worked) and I completed the turn. When I released the stalk, it went back to DTRL-only operation.

Sooooo...it appears that I have stalk issue for sure. Seems like a bad wire. I'm kinda-handy with a soldering iron, so if I'm lucky, there will be a simple wire staring at me when I tear into it. I hope the tear down isn't too tricky on this thing...

Thanks for all the help, folks!

If you've got JTIS follow 86.65.92 Steering Column Multifunction Switch in Chassis, where you'll also find Steering Wheel Removal
In Body and Paint, 501-20B you'll find the driver air bag removal details.
I've not done this but it might be wise to put a witness mark on wheel + column to make sure you put the wheel back correctly.
Let us know how you get on.
