Do I see it correctly that there is no chrome frame around the rear screen? I thought that all SV8 had them.

Yes no chrome on the front or rear window.
The car is my daily driver, but feel a little bad about it because of its low milage. Currently at 50k miles.
Im the second owner, it was bought new here in Norway with a sticker price of 250k usd (we have crazy taxes on cars)

I agree, the price tag was eye watering... list price of mine was app. 135kEUR in 2003, without the Sepangs, which it does not have, but including the screens in the headrests with DVD player.

 

The chrome surrounds for the front and rear windows were removed on the X350 facelift, which I think was around 2005.

It looks good with the chrome surrounds, but they create a lot of headaches when you have to replace them. The rear one on my car was starting to get loose, and refixing it with new clips was a real pain.

Actually I have just noticed that the car in the picture is not a facelift model, and the rear window still has the trim bead around it, so I am surprised it does not have Chrome. I guess they must have not put it on some cars. The facelift ones have no "bead" around the window, the glass is sealed flush.

I remember on my old X350 Super V8 the chrome trim tarnished very badly at only 7 years old. I think they are aluminium with a thin clearcoat, and the aluminium seems to tarnish over time.

 

So the facelift does not have the trim, I need to change my front screen due to a crack, does anyone know if i can change to facelift screen and gasket to get rid of the trim?
On my previous car it was chrome, but on this its correct as stated that the trim is there but its black.

 

After looking at the parts list it looks like both front and rear glas is different for facelift and no gasket is used, only glue.

 

VIN 37640 here! 181k miles, RHD, renewed and upgraded more than just maintained. Black and ivory like new int. 4 seater, 4 zone a/c, rear picnic tables and screens, which makes it a great car still today. Very happy with it, looking to keeping it forever.

G45992 checking in! Car is currently in the shop having a custom full exhaust fabricated and installed but should be ready tomorrow.

 

The VIN doesn't differentiate between SV8 or VDP. (VIN position 6-7 is always dual-marked VDP/SV8 where that applies).
The options don't identify an SV8 (given most options are optional, and an SV8 doesn't need to be fully optioned).
So. What is an SV8? Does it say so on the build sheet?
I was under the impression an SV8 has working side-vents which look like machined out of metal, though I'm not sure that's definitive either.

I'm getting the impression there seem to be too many SV8's ?, which are supposed to be rare.
(I've reviewed Pete M's posts, who has one albeit from a different country he's done a lot of research on it).

The good news is that all you guys will blow my V6 out of the water.
(although you'd be hard-pressed to tell from installed options; you'd certainly tell at the traffic lights or if you opened the hood).

(If you search on "VIN" by "Pete M", it seems an unadorned rear was an option in some markets, so you can't go by the rear labels either)

actually, from what I have seen looking at advertised cars I have come to the conclusion that it is not so difficult to identify an SV8.

At least here in Europe, the telltale signs would normally be the fully wooden steering wheel, together with the seats with contrasting piping and the lot in combination with the supercharged engine. An XJR normally does not have the seats with contrasting piping.
I know that there are SV8s with the "standard" wood/leather steering wheel, but these are rare here in Europe.

Apart from this, yes, the built sheet from Jaguar Heritage clearly states whether the car is an SV8, the following picture shows the relevant part of the certificate for my car:



And no, the side vents are not an indication that a car is an SV8, because none of the X350s had side vents. If I remember correctly, the side vents were only introduced on the X358.

One question that I have, as I believe that VDPs were not sold in Europe: were these available in both aspirated and supercharged versions? If they came only with aspirated engines, this would be a distinguishing element as all SV8s were supercharged.
