Default 2005 Super V8 New Owner here and Problems :(

Hello,

I just picked up a 2005 Super V8, which made me pretty happy. I saw my first Jaguar in person when I was 15, a 94 XJ BRG/tan, and I fell in love with styling. Thankfully, Jaguar kept making cars with the similar lines years later.

Now come the problems: 1. The rear vent does not blow air at all. I admit I should’ve checked that it blew air, not just powered up, when I picked up the car, but the P.O. said he wanted to sit in the back during the test drive so that my GF would sit next to me. Sneaky sneaky! I was also distracted with making sure the 2000 other options worked. I’ve checked the #53 20 Amp fuse in the trunk and it’s good. I don’t think I’m missing any tricks to get the rear air to blow and I’m thinking it’s a disconnected/faulty blower. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any info on that. How difficult is it to get to the blower? I’ve maintained all my cars and bikes and I’m comfortable with trying to replace a blower provided I won’t have to drop the transmission or pull the dash.

2. Am I the only one with a bad antenna? Make that two. Both the factory Sirius and FM radio have really poor reception. Any thoughts on that are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Have you turned the rear vents on from the front touch screen display?
On my 2008 Super V8 you have the options of turning the rear vents off, controlling from the front display, matching the driver or letting the rear passengers control it.

Shouldn't be too difficult to change. Don't worry, you didn't get screwed yet!

seamagineer: Yes, I have. All the controls on the rear panel work. I can adjust fan speed, temp, and mode from there, but no air comes out

amcdonal86: I’m starting to think that rear blower and its fuse are for something other than A/C. I cannot find a rear blower for sale online. You think jaguar just carried over the designed from the previous generation where all the vents were on the front blower?

I have never had the pleasure of being in the back of a Super V8, but I am almost sure that it has a separate blower motor.

Thank you, I saw that thread. This one has more info on blower relays. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...estions-49614/ The part number for the reply mentioned in the thread is for a front relay, which made me look for the rear relay. When I couldn't find rear relay, I started looking for the blower itself and couldn't find it. I'm going to have to buy a jag tech some expensive alcohol and see if he'll give me the shop manual.

A few bottles of Patron may be more expensive than the repair itself!

I was thinking Miller Light (I live in rural NC)

So is it one relay that controls both blowers or two independent ones?

It looks like a separate one for the rear (see attached). The relay also looks like it controls the steering wheel heater (where fitted).

Thanks for the files. Steering wheel heater works. I'm tempted to grab my toolbox and start exploring on my own.

I can't access those files btw. Something about my account privileges. I guess newbies have to work their stripes somehow. Could you just email it to me please?

It doesn't look like the forum inbuilt email system allows attachments so if you let me know what your email address is I will send you a copy.

Hello there. I am curious, as I am currently combing the world looking at these cars (Supers and R's) that come up for sale, may I ask which one you just bought? Was it the black one that was on ebay in Apex, NC? If so, I looked at that car very carefully. There's one here in Dallas right now that is almost identical, but it has a tan interior and standard finish wheels. I drove it the other day. It is splendid. Congrats!

U102768: I can't even send you a private message My email is aerospike1@hotmail.com

SuperTrav: Yes, I got the one in NC. I'm happy with it. I'm just frustrated with how difficult it's been to find a service manual. I have the shop manual on my laptop for all my other vehicles. I use an old laptop with a new battery, anti glare film, and some clear plastic sheet over the keyboard. Easier than printing every section. Good luck on your search. I still love my car.

Khello, Nicely done. you got that car for a song! I hope very much that you successfully resolve the rear air issue. I am still about a month away from biting off on the purchase. If I did it today and bought the local Super now, I'd have a great car and an estranged wife! Many would take the car, but for now, I think I'll keep the wife!
