Default 2005 X350 4.2 super charged engine bay diagram

Morning all

I have recently removed the engine from a 4.2 V8 XJR Supercharged due to a broken piston.
Engine is being rebuilt as we speak.
At some point in the near future it will return and need to go back in which is fine but there is a wealth of pipes etc to go back on and I wonder if there is such a thing as a diagram to assist this process?
Any thoughts welcome!
Cheers
Dan

Hi, Dan,
I have not pulled an engine in a X350 but I have replaced all cooling lines and am preparing to replace the head gasket. Once I have the heads removed I can take some pictures of the open engine bay and post those to this thread. In the mean time, there are two diagrams that might help you:
  • workshop manual #3, powertrain, page 1179 in the .pdf, full diagram of the radiator and all hoses in the front of the car; and
  • workshop manual #3, powertrain, page 1185 in the .pdf, full diagram of the cooling system
While I'm still learning on the the X350 platform, what looks at first like a spiders web of illogic is best thought about as individual systems. You have engine coolant hoses, oil hoses, p/s hoses, transmission cooling hoses, heater HVAC and A/C HVAC hoses. Most of these are in the front of the car, some go around (heater HVAC are passenger side and AC HVAC are drivers side (US driver's side) and a small number within the accessories / components of the longblock (valley hose to throttle body, throttle body to EGR, EGR to front crossover pipe if I recall correctly).

I am guessing (but could be wrong) that you will be dropping the engine in with the supercharger in place. If this is the case, then you will probably follow this approach (I have no experience here, just thinking through given the recent time I've spent in the engine bay):
  • longblock goes in, avoiding the heater and AC HVAC lines on the sides / back of the car that are already in place. Front hoses should be held back with bungie cords or otherwise to provide room for installing
  • P/S / AC bracket goes on
  • P/S pump, which maybe already has the lines attached?
  • A/C condenser goes on, and A/C lines attached
  • oil cooler lines
  • primary electrical hookup
  • all the front coolant connections (and there's a lot)
Again I've never done this, and that list could have errors, but that's my first thought.

Edit: and I forgot about the vacuum hoses and fuel line hosts, but these come from the same corner of the engine bay (US driver's side rear for me).

Thanks for the response its a really comprehensive reply.
Any picture you can take would be very welcome!
Part of the issue is that I am doing this for a family friend who had already started taking lumps off so just a little bit in the dark really.

Thanks
