2005 XJ Passenger door open warning
The puddle lights are going off correctly when the doors are closed but I'm still get this error message, also won't lock on the remote (just beeps) - can still lock it normally using the key...
Is it most likely a microswitch fault on one of the door mechanisms? and if so any ideas on finding out which one?
Any help would be appreciated...

The microswitch is used in the actuator itself-there is a separate switch for the door alarm signal which is not easily accessible and I suspect you have a faulty switch although you should check the wiring and connections to it first.
This switch is connected to ground when the door is ajar.
There is a triangular plug and socket on the door latch with three pins only two of which are used for two wires which lead to the switch.
Using a meter you can detect when this switch is closed and you can open and close the latch by moving the hook with your finger and unlatching with the handle. You may need to unplug the electrics to the latch to do this.I did it on the bench with a spare latch.
An auto electrician would no doubt measure the pins at the REM and FEM to find where the fault is however I would check each door in turn. This means removing each door card but once you have done one it is not too bad.
I have just had a thought that the easier way is to just unplug the switch and with the door in the shut position the light will go out.
Photos attached showing socket on latch, latch open, latch closed.
If you identify a faulty switch you will need to replace the latch or just leave the switch disconnected! (el cheapo solution)

Thanks for the advice most helpful..
It seems the "passenger door open" message is for any door other than the drivers.
Unplugging the microswitch switch connectors 1 door after another has no effect - still shows passenger door is open.
I'll prob get an autolec on the job, can anyone tell me where the control box for the system is - so I assume he can check the feeds out to each of the doors and the returns....
Thanks
