Default 2005 XJ8 L Driver Seat Headrest Removal and Replacement

I've seen posts that cover this issue somewhat but not to a satisfying degree. Basically they said "pull real hard".

How do you remove the headrest from the driver's seat? Other than tilting the seat back and raising the headrest electronically, is it just a matter of brute force? Are there any clips? Is there any documentation available?

Raising and lowering the headrest electronically works fine and I don't want to break it.

All help appreciated.

I cant recall the exact steps BUT, if it is a powered headrest and you try to pull it of like the unpowered headrest, YOU WILL BE VERY SORRY! The unpowered does just slide out. The powered one requires disassembly of parts of the seat prior to removal. If not done correctly, you will strip out the motor gears and be really pissed.
The factory manual on this site does have the proceedures for removal of both types.

Sorry, just read your post again. Read the steps in the factory manual, as you have the motorized headrest. DONT JUST PULL!

I looked around a bit but cannot find the factory manual on this website. Can you point me in the right direction or provide a link?

You said that it moves up and down, but didnt say why you need to remove the headrest.

To Mark in Maine, I need to remove it because the plastic frame inside the upholstered headrest broke off of the chrome metal piece that goes into the headrest and the seat back. I have no idea why it broke as there was no specific incident and there was no pressure applied to it. It just seemed to spontaneously fall off.
