If you press the Phone/Talk button on the left hand side of the steering wheel the message center should read "listening", if it doesn't then it doesn't have voice, or something needs to be fixed. You'll have to visit a dealer to get that one addressed.

Default Exactly the same issue with my 2006 Vanden Plas

When I press the voice button on the steering wheel there is no beep and it doesn't accept any voice commands. The "listening" message never appears. Everything else works and the owners handbook information doesn't help at all. Does anyone know if the 2006 XJ Vanden Plas came with the Voice Command feature... or not?

I just bought for 100.00 from a junk yard a Voice activation module with the fiber optic cables, it takes about 15 minutes to install and your done. I was able to get my Jag dealer to find me from another Jag dealership the VC manual for the box. I went with the newer updated version of the older style, they had a mid year split in 2005 You want part number XR849645 Voice Module and if you have all the goodies like Nav etc. you need cable C2C21852 and the book is JJM180826501 (obsolete but have your dealer do a search for one and they can get it from another dealership)

I haven't had a car without voice since 1993 on my Lincoln Mark VIII, I cant safely drive without it and its just a great thing to have. If you learn to use the commands, its easy and a must have item.

I find VACM quite useful especially for the CD players and radio. When I use it for navigation it can be very useful while driving. I must admit that I cannot remember many NAV commands as I do not use that function often enough. I tend to study up on those commands before a long trip.
It was very easy to install and like Collector1 I obtained used products.

Default Voice command

Here is the module or a pic of an older version, mine is date 2007 with an AB on the end with the 7 fiber optic loop to plug and play, No additional configuration needed. It works right off the bat. Here is the picture of the book I just got from my Jag dealer. Part number for the manual is JJM 18 08 26 501 This is the latest production and are not available through Jag, but my parts guy went into the system and found a few dealers that still had one and had it sent in for me. Very helpful. Its pretty basic stuff if you have had voice command on any car before. This is all there is to it.

I cant believe that my 2006 Super V8 didnt come with it installed. It has every other option on it.
Any ideas, or other Super V8 owners out there with the same configuration?
It jus seems weird.

My 05 super did not have it standard, but it was easy to (recently) install...

Thanks

Don't think it is too weird, probably the norm. My Super V8 Portfolio did not come equipped with it either. In fact I believe it was a dealer installed option.

Jaguar Voice was always an option. Was still up until just a year or so ago that I think it started to become standard, unless it was standard on the 2010 XJ's. You know they will milk you for as much as they can.

I use the VACM to call a phone number: "Phone dial <say the phone number>". There is some strange way to make it recognize the phone book, but I have not tried it.

There is also "Phone redial" command, I use on occasion.
