2005 XJR armrest
Just picked up an 05 XJR, and I need to replace the busted armrest. Both latches are broken so it just kinda flops around every time I lift my arm.
However, I have never seen this type of armrest in an XJ350. My 03 STR and almost every other XJ350 I have seen have the armrest that slides front to back to cover the cupholders that are in the center console. My XJR on he other hand has the type that the top opens to reveal cupholders built into the armrest itself, not the center console. It looks almost like the one in my 98 XK8, but I know it is not from an older car because it is slightly different.
Does anyone know why my armrest is different and whether the sliding type can be fitted in its place?

I have the same armrest in my 04 Super V8, I had never seen one like it before. I can see that the rear section slopes upwards toward the rear.
Mine has the four zone heating control and quite a large control panel in the rear for the rear seat passengers, sorry I cant help with the clip issue, may be worth asking the dealer if you can purchase the clipping part separately.

MetalMarty - I believe that is the armrest that came with the optional 4-zone climate control.
Roviw - I'm curious. You say you have an 04 Super V8. Was that unique to the UK market? I was only aware of SWB models in 04, and the first X350 Super VDP came out in 05. Or at least that was the case in North America.

Over in the UK the SWB car came out around February 2003. My first X350, a 3.5 V8 SE, was a July 2003 model, the Super V8 I have now is a May 2004 SWB.
The Super V8 was also listed in the 2003 brochure I have when the car was released. The 4 zone climate was an option which when combined with the electrically operated rear seats with heaters ( either bench or individual ) needed to have the larger console and different armrest unit.
The rear console does extend into the rear area more and does mean it is awkward for a middle passenger.
They were also fitted with the Brembo brakes as well.
The LWB came out maybe a year later or so but I cannot remember which month.
We did not have the VDP badging over here. I think that the X350 model was not available in the US until 2004, a year after the UK launch.
I think the first owner of mine must have put virtually every option on it, adaptive cruise, heated and electric rear seats, 4 zone climate, rear side window blinds, 20" sepang alloys, TV/DVD and rear entertainment screens etc, together with the standard soft leather and piping, premium hifi , telephone, etc which would have been standard.
I did price up the whole car in the 2004 brochure and it came in at about £76000, wow, loads of money back then ! ( and now of course )

Thank you all for your replies, and yes I have the four zone climate control. I thought all of the XJs had this option, but I guess I am glad to see that I have found the most decked-out version of this car. The only thing it doesn't have is the headrest TVs.
Now the problem is finding a replacement! Every one I come across online is the sliding type.

Hope this helps.

Yes, mine is like that but without the phone. That front clip is completely missing on mine, and the top clip to open the cupholders is broken.
