Sorry for the delay in updating and thanks to all for the replies.
Yes I bought it, and my wife didn't have clue. I came in the house asking whose car was parked in the middle of the driveway. After a little of my bitching about our kid's friends parking all over the place, she went out to see who it was- she said with a real confused look, "whose Jag is this"! I said yours, and don't be parking in the middle of the drive. After bouncing around and making a lot of noise she stops and with a very serious look said -YEA RIGHT!, REAL FUNNY! I don't like this joke. Then I gave her the keys.
I have to say what a fun car to drive, I just need some excuses to get her out of it so I can drive it some.
Took it into the Jag dealer for their 200 something checklist, tech came out and told me "that car is really tight - it's in great shape". The only thing they wrote up was front and back brake pads were at 50%. SO FAR things are looking good.
I now need to post on what aftermarket warranty to go with.
I haven't taken and pics yet but here it a link with pics from the seller.

Nice buy! I lucked out 2 weeks ago with a 2005 XJR Select Edition for another 18 months. It had 39k miles and the dealer was asking $29k. I left with the car for $23,900 at 2.9% financing and the SE warranty. I think we both got lucky. Congrats.

The cost of part and labor for theses cars is exspensive at a dealership. The reliability of these cars is very high and I believe just under Lexus. So if you are compairing repairs to repair of any other car they have less, but they just cost more per repair. They only cost an arm and a leg if you service at the dealership. A quality independant mechanic is KEY. I wouldn't have bought the car without one.

I used to think that so I once took the 04 XJ8 to the local Jaguar independent garage. The place was dirty and unkempt with bits everywhere. I took the car away without them touching it. They were asking $600 for a brake job. The Jaguar garage did it for $700. The independents are not always the best choice, at least not in my neck of the woods.

Mechanics are like doctors. They operate on cars and Not all are equal.

I have a local mechanic who works on exotics including Jags. I was working my way up to giving him a go at my XJR service. I needed to have the transmission flushed so I asked him how he measured the temp to get the correct fill point. He told me it was not important and he didn't bother with it.

Where do they get these guys? The man advertises himself as a specialist on severel cars that use ZF transmissions and this is what you get.

Good buy Jose, hello AllJags. It pays to do just a little checking.

I enjoyed that story as well. Your wife is a very lucky gal! I must admit, as much as I love my 8, I do wish it ended in R instead.

As far as the $1 per mile maintenance discussion I missed out on earlier, that reminds me of a girlfriend I once had....

jeffn, there is another warranty provided by the dealer, called the Extra Mile Warranty.

Thanks for that heads up.

And how does the R compare to the NA XJ for repairs/maintenance? Looking at an 04, 50k-ish miles loaded w/dvd & all asking 21k. I'm thinking 18 would be tops for it.
