2005 XJR Question...
I have a 2005 XJR. I've noticed that it makes an occasional hissing sound from the front radiator area of the car, almost like the sound of letting off steam. It's sporadic, only last for a couple of seconds, and usually occurs right after I've shut the car off. Is this some sort of normal "pressure release" function involving the engine cooling system on the XJR? The temperature guage indicates it's fine, and it's never caused any issues. Just never heard that sound on any of my other vehicles. Any thoughts from Forum members?
Also, I assume the XJR exhibits a certain degree of road steer, even with the front end perfectly aligned. I can't take my hand off the steering wheel for more than a second, otherwise the car automatically follows the crown in the road, or responds to every road imperfection because of the aggressive tire tread and suspension, or both! I've had the same thing happen on BMW's as well, so I assume it's a characteristic of European sports sedans. Am I correct?

Relative to your first question, I can't help except to say it's not normal.
The way you describe the suspension /steering on your car indicates a problem either with the tires or the front end alignment. Go with checking out the tires 1st, it's easier, followed by the alignment. Try rotating the tires front to back. There is a condition with tires called "nibbling" that describes your ride very nicely. Hope that it's not tires as they are fairly expensive for these cars.

First issue is the air suspension releasing the pressure in the air lines. Normal.
Second issue, I have not noticed. Just put new tires on and yet to have highway experience with them. Don't remember any problems with the old tires. If my memory is correct, you have to have the front suspension slightly "out of specs" to be correct. My Jag tech did mine on a specially calibrated Jaguar alignment machine.

The front end pulling on road crowns or other uneveness is called tramlining. It is common on cars with low profile tires. Some will pull the wheel out of your hand they get so bad. The problem is the tires, not the car. The only thing that will fix it is to replace the tires. They probably look okay, but they are shot. Do not buy the same brand again. The worst I had for this were Dunlop Sport 8000's. Try the Pirellis or Yokohamas.

It always surprises me what car owners will tolerate if they think a condition/issue/problem is "normal". My MD once told me the same thing about a sinus infection .
These cars, in particular the 350 series, are among the best steering and responding cars on the planet. If you think a 350 series Jag steering/response is in any way unsatisfactory and you have the will and the money --it can be made right.
One of the great things about these Forums is that you can get any answer to a problem you desire. One of em will be right. Often among the answers is something you never considered before, even if ,like myself, you already know it all.
