I am having the hardest time replacing the cooling hose near my supercharger. I attached a photo. Any ideas are appreciated. Upper coolant hose replacement
Assuming it's not an access issue, it must be either getting the new rubber hose onto the metal outlet or dealing with the retaining clips?
There is a special tool available for removing/replacing those clips but I just use adjustable pipe grips:
Squeeze the lugs (arrowed in red) together to open the clip and slide it back along the hose. Use the same technique to remove the clip shown in your photo. Release gently - they can fly a long way!
To fit the new hose, first put the clip on the hose about two inches from the end. To make it easier to get a new hose onto the outlet, run some liquid soap around the inside with your finger and it should slide on a lot more easily. Finally, open the clip with the grips and move it along the hose into position near the end.
Those clamps suck. The tool you want which mayyyy make your job easier is a constant tension hose clamp pliers. They make two kinds. One that looks like a pliers and one that has a little cable line so you can get into tight places. Or you can use worm drive clamps. While some advise against it, I have used it in several vehicles without issue. The problem is that as the hose expands from the temp, the hose will dig into the clamp so to speak. But I have yet to have one wear out from that.
The spring clamps do take some getting used to.
I learned to live with the darn things years ago, from working on motorcycles.
They do stay nice and tight, but not tight enough to break or crack the plastic nipples they're connected to.
Worm clamps have given me issues before, loosening then leaking.
Or cracking the plastic, they were fastened to, & then leaking.
But not with the spring clamps, they usually stay snug till the hose fails
thanks for the tip regarding using liquid soap. never thought of that before. i was concerned about contamination, but that small of an amount is not likely to cause an issue. I finally got in on after a lot of sweat and a little blood, but no tears.
My next project is the water pump. I am chasing a leak. The first hose I replaced ruptured.
