Default 2006 VDP causes my wife's hearing aids to click.

The title sums it up. Both this 2006 VDP and the 2005 VDP we had both cause clicking noises in my wife's hearing aids. Without any clever replies please as this is a serious question, has an other XJ8 owner had this problem and, if so, is there a suppressor of some sort that would stop the interference?

Does it only do it when stopped, or in reverse? It could be the parking sensors, since they are ultrasonic.

Yes. My wife has the same problem in my 2007 XJR. No one else can hear the noise when they are sitting in the passenger seat, but my wife hears it when her hearing aids are in her ears. If she turns her head sideways the noise goes away. I thought perhaps the electric motors for the adjustable seat or headrest were causing it and I have not found any way to get it to stop. The only solution so far is for her to remove them or turn them off.

Thank you. This is exactly what happens with my wife. There must be a solution other than removing the hearing aids

My Dad has complained of the same issue, I think it might be the occupancy sensors in the headliner.

This seems so nuts to me. I am sorry this is happening to everyone.

Good point, I forgot about the occupancy sensors.

Smile Hearing Aid noise

We had the same issue only worse with my 07 XJ8. A lot of checking found it is the hearing aid reacting to the occupancy sensor.
It is an issue with the frequency the hearing aids respond to. The dog cured it when he chewed the hearing aid. A new hearing aid, no more issues.

I have exactly the same issue in my 2005 XJ8, recently purchased. It is only a problem when I am in the passenger seat and my wife is driving (I wear the hearing aids in the family). My solution is to run to the driver's side door as fast as I can when we head out to the car :-) Would love to know if anyone has found a way around this issue as well, by blocking the signal in some way?

It's a no brainer. It's the freqs in the passenger seat occupancy sensors. They are ultrasonic. There must be a solution other than driving, or being chauffeured around town in the back seat. I'll see if other manufactures have this issue.

Give this a read. Apparently a work around noted in post 23 of this thread:

Here' a quote from another post.

"We initially got around the problem (clicking) by putting a wide piece of tape on the edge of the center ultrasonic sensor."

My question is, where is the center ultrasonic sensor? I've got the gaffer tape all ready to go.

Thank you.

After experimenting a bit, we've found that if my wife removes one hearing aid and turns it off, the clicking stops. If she leaves the other hearing aid turned on and in her ear, she can stiff hear well enough to carry on a conversation, hear the sounds of the car, and hear the normal road noises like horns, sirens and so on, but she no longer hears the annoying clicking.

Not the best solution by any means, but it works.

I've done a bit of digging and came across this site which explains what Jaguar have done which causes the clicking. Jaguar refer to the system as Advanced Restraint System. Here's the link. https://www.eetimes.com/ultrasonic-s...ag-deployment/

I then searched for and found the Electrical Guide for the 2006 XJ8. http://jagrepair.com/images/Electric...al%20Guide.pdf

The **** system is covered (pun intended) on pages 169 and 170. Bear in mind that this is for a RHD car.

If we have any electrical engineers on the forum they might be able to tells us how to disable the system.

There are many, many owners and passengers with hearing aids which suffer due to this ARS system including my wife. If I cant fix it I will be forced to sell the car.

Left-field response. I had random clicking noises coming "from my dashboard". Is it the keys jiggling? Nope.
Turned out to be my wife's incessant texting keystrokes just outside my peripheral vision.
The only strange thing (to me but probably not to you) was how long it took my neurons to connect. (Months!)
