2006 XJ8 High mileage
Hi guys. I’m looking at a 2006 XJ8 with 222000 miles. It had leaky valve cover gasket’s which allowed oil into the coils. The owner has maintenance records showing it was well cared for. Question: Should I buy this car? I can easily replace the coils and plugs but I am a little skittish about the high miles. What do you say? Thanks
222k! Too high?

Lots of questions.
coilovers?
thermostat housing replaced?
Transmission serviced?
Check alignment, or more mportant if it can be aligned.
The body looks as good as mine, with half the miles. How are seats?
That mileage is getting close to what seems to be upper limit. These are not Toyota’s, full size pickups, or other long lasting cars that easily pass 300,000 miles.
There was a thread asking for highest mileage and seemed around 250,000 was about the highest. Modern cars all seem to be capable of that.
The rear end, transmission, and motor are solid. Like any car they require service. The suspension, electronics, and other bits can hold up if you baby sit them. The electrical grounds, bushings, and air struts are like brakes and tires. Regular replacement or service.

ROWKID,
Don B is in Franklin area. PM him to see if he knows of any lower mileage models. He repairs them. May get offered one where current owner gives up.
I know a guy here who fixes Jags and also sells. He has a 1/4 acre of them now.
Xalty.
That is the kiss of death at 216. Seems about a grand for another seems average. I have heard of A8’s with over 400K. Same transmission. Think fluid changes can make a huge difference.
Kind of like oil changes.use only premium synthetics, Castro, M1, now Idemitsu in cars. Always at 5K. Never any engine issues. Ramps, MiteyVac, and fluids have paid for themselves a dozen times over.

High mileage
Thanks guys. I decided to pass on the car. Really nice interior but the miles were just too much. If I was a younger man I might take on a project like that but I don’t need any more projects. I would like to reach Don B in Franklin to see what he’s got. If you can share his number I would appreciate it. Thanks again to all who responded. R
