Default 2006 xjh L jaguar won't run.

I was driving my auto xj8 L and it suddenly stalled. I coasted into a safe place dumfounded. A red indicator light went on. (I had been running with an amber light and check engine message. A dealer said, when it was checked out that there were no issues and to just drive...it could be catalytic issue)Now back to my story.

I Restarted and result was I could only drive about 20 mph. I had it picked up and Jag dealer did their thing. after analysis their conclusion was ity could be catalytic or it could be something with my air ride system. So either a $4400 or $2200 fix....this without knowing what is actually knowing what the cause is.. In do not know what code they said showed up..

Opinions and educated guessing welcomed !!:

Get the codes. Not much point in guessing.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X350 forum. This is the place to post questions about your model.

Find a new dealer. This one, who can't tell you what is wrong but can tell you what it will cost to fix, will throw parts at the vehicle until your bank account is empty.

The MIL (amber engine warning light) is set because there are DTC's (Diagnostic trouble Codes - 'error codes'). The first step in troubleshooting is to see exactly what the code(s) are. Without that, it's guesswork.

Red light - which red light?

Graham

Get the codes and post them on here.

I would recommend that you find a reliable

mechanic locally and stay away from the dealer.

A Jaguar dealership service department that can't tell you whether the malfunction is with a catalytic converter or the air suspension is clueless. No knowledgeable Jaguar mechanic could ever confuse the two. Also, no responsible dealership would suggest you drive the car indefinitely with the Check Engine Light illuminated. I agree with meirion1 that you should never go back to that dealer, unless it is to deliver notice that you are suing them for gross malpractice that resulted in damage to your vehicle.

Please find a good independent mechanic with a diagnostic system capable of reading the proprietary Jaguar diagnostic fault codes and post all the codes here exactly as they appear and we'll try to help.

Cheers,

Don
