2006 XJShould I keep it, should I ice it, should I sell it?
I'm a sextuagenarian Realtor from Long Island New York who has long admired the beauty and grace of Jaguars--I guess from the day I first saw an XKE at the New York Auto Show as a grade schooler in the 1960s. A few years ago I picked up a slightly used 2006 XJR and have loved it for the 50K miles I have driven it. It is a joy to drive, gets compliments from all my clients, and I feel good whenever I'm behind its wheel. However, I'm not a car guy. I can barely change a tire and carry AAA coverage so I never have to. Now, my extended warranty is coming to an end and I have fear and trepidation going forward that my Jaguar's trouble free days may be at an end. So I wonder: should I--can I?--get more warranty coverage at 60K miles? I've done all the usual typical regular servicing at my local Jaguar dealer, but what lies ahead for this vehicle at this age? My Jaguar has a nice comfortable indoor parking spot and doesn't come out in the winter. I'd like to get another 10 years out of it at least. Appreciate all your input. With thanks in advance. Fred

You worry too much
If you have 60K on it, should last. BUT find a good independent for working it. They will save you 50% or more on unplanned repairs.
If purchased a car from a place in Levittown on Long Island. Small shop, seemed to do good work on vintage European cars.
The is lots that need attention at 9 years on a XJR. The upper and lower A arm bushings, the sway bar links, belt, tensioner, and roller, spark plugs, a trannie flush and filter, battery, rear end flush, power steering flush.
I can ALL this done for around 1500.00. Long Island prices might be 2500.00 - 3,000.00. Evolution in Levittown might get closer to Houston prices.
But this addresses many items and should get you another five years.
The sway bar links had crumbling rubber. New links tightened up a lot.

Well my car is on 92k miles, (bought at 30k in 2010), and I intend to keep it for many more years. I am not yet a sextuagenarian motorist, (68 in July coming) but I no longer work on my cars. In the past I have rebuilt a Mark 2 and most of an XJ6, so I know my way around them.
Many owners have these cars well beyond 100k miles with some nearing or over 200k. Of course as said by Panelhead, you are going to have to do some replacements of wearing parts as the miles build up. Advice on finding a good independent is sound. I take my car to a local Jaguar specialist and they do a good job, and, more importantly, aren't tied to Jaguar parts supply and prices. Many parts on the internet are OEM and less than half the Jaguar price, and this is where significant savings can be made in yearly costs.

The advice given in the replies is good. I have a 2002 XJ8 with 240,000 miles on the clock, and the engine/gearbox have never been opened up. Just regular servicing by a good Indie. So my advice would be -
Forget about extending the warranty
Find a good Indie and build a rapport with him
Get roadside repair/recovery cover to get you out of trouble.
