2007 XJR Service Schedule
#1
![Question](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif)
My XJR Portfolio is due for its 20,000 mile service. Having asked my local main dealer the cost and detail of what they would do, their reply was akin to "how long is a piece of string"! They don't offer the official Jaguar fixed price service for cars out of warrantee because, as they very directly told me, "we wouldn't make any money if we did that"
I have a reliable alternative small garage that has done other jobs for me and is a Jaguar enthusiast and specialist.
I would like to know what is on the official service schedule so that I can both have a sensible dialogue with the mechanic and also use it as a check-list.
Can anyone help please?
By the way, the car is a 2007 model and has only done 20K miles. Not bad for a car that they only made 100 of (UK) in the first place!
Thanks.

The former is strictly 'time and materials' as laid down by Jaguar in their published schedules. The latter is whatever the Dealer can persuade you is in danger of imminent failure and must be replaced!
Here is the Service Schedule for all 2007MY:

Nothing there that your local independent or an enthusiast DIY'er cannot carry out.

Glad to year that you are the owner of a 2007 Portfolio but sad to hear yours has 20,000 miles on the clock. Mine has 47,000 and I was hoping I was the lowest mileage.
I have mine serviced by the Jaguar main dealer (at the moment Watford Jaguar but previously Grange Welwyn whereI bought the car. I think it is a good idea to maintain a fully stamped Jaguar Service history for these cars and what I did was to join the service club and I pay about £28 per month on a 3 year plan that covers the full cost of all servicing.
When the car needs some work that is not regular routine servicing I have found that it can be best to obtain multiple quotes. I have used Apps that put a job out to local mechanics to tender for the work is a good choice and doing this I saved 75% on the main dealers quote for lower wishbone replacement.

Thank you very much; that is just what I was looking for.
Perhaps like you I am a member of the JDC and JEC and you will note that in the monthly magazine Jaguar advertise a fixed price service for vehicles out of warrantee. This makes sense in that this keeps Jaguar owners happy and ensures the integrity of MOD parts used in serving vehicles. It was this Jaguar approved service plan that I asked my local main agent Cleland of Galashiels to undertake the standard 20K service. In reply I got the answer that it was up to local main agents to decide whether they would participate in the national Jaguar scheme and to which I got the blunt answer about not being worth their while!
England not quite as good against Italy as the Wales match, but the outcome was what matters. Keeping my fingers crossed for Scotland today although I think it will require more than fingers.

Your Dealer is (deliberately) confusing Scheduled Service with Repairs.
The former is strictly 'time and materials' as laid down by Jaguar in their published schedules. The latter is whatever the Dealer can persuade you is in danger of imminent failure and must be replaced!
