2008 XJ VDP - Changing plugs soon, what about coils?
Hello all --
Thank you so much for all the knowledge I have received since getting my first Jag and joining the forum.
My 2008 XJ has about 70500 miles on it and I haven't used it much since picking it up in September 2013 with 69800 miles on it. It came from a Texas dealership with a detailed service history and a full 60k service.
I have been reading about the plug and coil replacement on this model and people seem to claim either 70k or 100k for a plug change. Seeing how difficult this looks, many are suggesting to do the coils as well while under her dress.
The car is running perfectly (knock on wood) so my question is (financial issues aside) is there any benefit doing plugs and/or coils at 70k if she is running fine? Would anyone do this as preventative maintenance for issues down the road?
Also -- oil question. Only put under 1k miles since getting the car in Sept. Dealer sticker says oil change was needed in February even though new oil change was done in Sept. To change or not?
Many questions I'm sure have simple answers, but I thank you all in advance for the education!
Cheers,
Chris

Normally you'd only replace the plugs. Modern plugs last a lot longer, (my V6 it's 70k for replace or 7 years). Unless you have a failure leave the coils alone, I say. Your car mileage is not a lot.
Dealer sticker will have been put there at the previous service, but you seem to have had one done early, so I'd measure interval from the service done when you picked up the car. Maybe dealer made a mistake, you could check with them.

I'd have a sniff of the dipstick and look at the colour. If it's fresh and golden, a 12 month oil change is fine. You are doing low mileage.
If it's black or smells of fuel, change it early.
Inspect the cabin and intake air filters to form a view on how thoroughly it's been serviced. Also the colour of brake fluid. V8 plugs are due at 100,000 miles.
