Here's a unicorn. Pretty car. I think it's priced optimistically. Sure is a looker

Thanks, SuperTrav. That dealer is not too far from us. Great to know about them.

If only the hood ornament hadn't been omitted! I suspect that would be a fairly easy install? Lucky for me, it has too many miles on her or I might be headed to Mount Vernon!

Carpe diem,

Steve S.

For reference, another attempt at "XJR Portfolio" being sold in Russia 3 years ago:
...never seen the "XJ/R/" badges arranged like this, also I don't think I have ever seen an XJR with front fog-lamps.
OTOH it's got the TV screens in the head-rests.
I don't know what this car was sold as but I doubt it was XJR.

I have the suspicion that the car was originally built for the European market, and not the US.
Two reasons: it does not have the hood ornament, which was standard only for the US market, but not for the European one (BTW, you need to drill a hole in the bonnet to retrofit it...), and it has a big recess for the licence plate in the bootlid, whereas I believe that US market (and Japanes market) cars have a small recess for it.

Strange for me is that the car does not have any foglights.

Best regards,

Thomas

Badge engineering. Very nice XJR, but overpriced. Paid less for a real 09 Portfolio, with less miles, in 2021.

The real test on identity is the VIN. I don't think the XJR had a Portfolio trim option. What I have seen recently in NZ is a supposed XJR being sold on TradeMe that was actually a SWB Super V8. I can see the VIN as NZ has CarJam for checking for vehicle status.

It's frustrating when owners try to fudge their car's identity. This is especially annoying for those of us who have a car whose identity was obscured right from manufacture.
This is from my car's build sheet. Most Japan model Super V8s had their badges changed to XJ8 or XJ8 L with SOVEREIGN on the right. Why this was done is a mystery to me. I'm not going to change it, it's part of the car's identity.

Why no rear badges?
