Default 2008 XJR Tires

Does anyone have any thoughts on brands and types of tires recommended for my 08 XJR? Came with 20" Dunlops.

I see you live in Houston. That is important for your tire selection. Your XJR normally runs a Summer high perf. tire. However, since you live in Houston, you will have to be very carefull not to operate the car in the snow or temps below freezing with these tires.

You could go with an all season A/S tire or a spare set of tires/wheels for Winter, but for Houston I'm not sure that makes much sense. I personally run all season tires. That way I can drive North in the Winter and not sweat light snow or the occasional cold snap we get here in central FL. Plus, they are quieter and reported to last longer.

I'm going to poke a hornets nest here .The best tire you can get for your car, Summer hi perf or A/S, is the Metchlin. But they are very, very expensive.

After Metchlen, you can get empassioned testimonials, pro & con, on every tire out there - bar none. I'm talking some of the most uninformed ,subjective claptrap on any subject you will find on this Forum . In general the Summer Hi Perf tires from Korea and Japan come out well in price/performance tests.

The best tires for A/S seems to be the old standard brands, such as but not limited to Dunlop, Pirelli, and the American companies that do tires in your size.

Lastly, make sure you select a brand that makes the tire you want in the 19"/20" XJR size. Only a handfull do so it's a limiting factor.

I did thanks. Was very hard getting off of my 01 but I think it's going to be just fine. The ride is far better than the 01 then again it's not 10 years old either.

Thanks for the information. If your not familiar with Houston, snow is about a once in four year event and then it's a fluke. As far as cost. I kinda knew what I was signing up for when I started so we are not going to let that factor weigh in on this. All I have ever had on my Jags have been Perilli. They seemed like nice tires although the life span was quite short. I will do some research on the suggested tires. The Dunlops are new so I should have atleast 3 or 4 months left..Lol. Thanks again

I went for the Pirelli P6 myself. It was the best combo of performance and price in an all season tire I could find. I would love to have had Michelins, but at twice the cost it didn't make much sense.

No doubt there are equal products out there, but I do like to stay with the name brands when my knowledge is limited.

Default tires

I have an 05 XJR and live in Houston. I have Pirelli P-Zeros on the car right now. I got them brand new for free so I can't complain. They are great once they warm up but have problems with flat spots when cold. There is a bulletin out for this problem. My neighbor bought some Korean tires (Hankook) for his infiniti M35 and he loves them. I will probably buy those when the pirelli's wear out. They seem to be the best bang for the buck. Stay away from aggressive tread patterns and "V" style tread patterns. They wear out quick and get noisy
