Default 380mm front XFR brakes fitted to XJR.

This evening I have fitted some XFR calipers along with mtec grooved discs and ebc red stuff pads, initial thoughts are a much better pedal and more initial ' bite' but I will have to wait for the 200 mile bedding in process to be complete before giving them a proper work out.

Some before and after pics.

For info this was a bolt on job took 2 hours to do both sides only delayed by one old disc refusing to come off!

Looking good.. Just need an ACM now
Joking aside are you doing the rears as well? So far as I can see apart from a new backing plate they just bolt on as well.

Impressive.

Wish it were possible on the X308.

What do the caliper brackets look like?

@Simonxj

Thanks not as good as the 400mms on yours though! Yeah plan is to do the rears just need the extended brackets as the calipers are exactly the same, job for next month I think as festival of speed is only two weeks away now so conserving funds for that!

@plums

Usual two bolt fixing to the hub, thinking back to my old xjr X308 I think the spacing is too wide but if you want to measure yours I could confirm with the old calipers, incidentally the old calipers for 355mm will be for sale as there is nothing wrong with them ;-)

How are you finding the mtec disks caldoofy? I need a new set of fronts as I've warped mine. I'm really surprised at how cheap they are compared to EBC and Stoptech.

Also, how are you finding the redstuff pads? I'm unsure whether to go for them or the yellow stuff as I'll be doing new pads/fluid and ss lines as the same time.

Brakes are a night and day difference from what was on, they don't seem to fade and there is much more negative g when you stand on them! I can also say that the mtec discs are also very good ( they are Delphi discs machined by mtec) there has been no sign of warping and have been on for a good 4000 miles now this brake setup should have been fitted as standard!

The red stuffs operate well from cold but are noticeably better when a bit of heat is in them. I may upgrade to yellow stuff next time round just don't want any squeal that upgraded pads sometimes create so I will have to look into that first.

Dust level is alot less than the pagids that were on previously (they were disappointing from the off so was glad to see the back of them).

Think you might have ss lines as standard (mine did)

Default compatible with stock XJR wheels?

One more ?

I don't know what type wheels you have... Do you foresee any clearance issues with stock 04-09 XJR wheels?

Thanks!

21" Arden sport lines , it says in his sig .
Looks to me that 18" won't fit and maybe not even 19s
Arnt the factory xfr wheels 20s?

04xjr, they were off the 5.0 xfr 2010 model I believe although they are the same calipers that are fitted to the xkrs and xfrs which widens the scope a little. They should fit behind the stock 20s no problem as they are on the xk and xf not sure about 19s though!

Cost for the calipers was £100, the discs were £200 the pair and red stuff pads were £90, fairly cheap upgrade really.

The wheels are Arden 21 inch split rims incidentally.

Do you happen to know the part numbers for this parts? Do I need a bracket for the calipers?

Thanks,

Not sure on part numbers I'll check through my photos, you need the calipers and carriers only and they bolt straight on ( use the same brake line connection too ).

hi

Do you still have this set up on the car, is the performance still as you expected?

Yes still on no problems at all and am enjoying the vastly superior braking performance Vs the standard ATE single piston 355s. I am going to be renewing front discs and pads as they are now showing signs of wear, routine maintenance.
