40,000 Miles Service? Used 2005 XJR
I recently bought a 2005 XJR with just under 40,000 miles from a dealer. It has the Select Edition warranty for about 17 more months, and I have put about 1,000 miles on it already.
Although the dealer probably "should have" eprformed whatever service was called for when they sold me the car, I'd like to go ahead and just get some things serviced to be safe. Other than an oil change, can anyone recommend some important service items that I should have performed at this time?
I want this car to last me a very, very long time, and so I don't mind dropping a few bucks if it is worthwhile. Maybe a transmission fluid change, or a radiator flush? Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Do you have prior owner service records, or does Jaguar have service records on the vehicle? Check that and fill in the blanks on anything not done. If coolant is clear, no need, If you live in deep south ie super hot I'd service a lot more fluid stuff. ** Bleed the brakes would be high on my list . Makes a big difference in pedal feel. If never done before, that was neglect!

There isn't really a lot to do at that kind of mileage, (my own 2003 XJ6 is on 33k). Probably flush through with new brake fluid as suggested, as car is now 5 years old. Coolant is long life and not due, nor spark plugs. Have a look at the pollen filter to see how dirty it is, this should have been replaced by now, so is a good indicator of servicing.
I would also visually check brake discs and pads. What does the oil look like when dipped ?

Brakes should be bled annually , at least every 2 yrs on a garaged vehicle. This will save you big later in life when it keeps calipers from corroding, sticking etc. You might be surprised how nasty the first few squirts of brake fluis are esp if you occasionally lke to clamp down hard on the binders from higher speed! Street fluid cooks quite easily!! and absorbs moisture like all fluids

Bleeding the brakes sounds like a good idea. I have NEVER liked how the brakes feel. There is a lot of pedal travel before they grab, and then they grab hard, except when wet, and then it feels like I have no brakes at all! The brakes are new in the rear, and have about 80% in the front remaining, so maybe this will make them perform better.
I was not given any service records, but they toild me it was all "up to date." Buying it at 39k miles, I don't know if that means they expected me to come back at 40k for the service. I suppose I will call the dealer's service department and ask.
Thanks everyone
