Default Ac blower Noise

04 Xjr...the ac Blower Fan makes a steady chirping sound at low to moderate speed, increasing in high pitch with higher speed. At Full blast the chirp noise goes away, but is replaced with the muffled roar sound of air, and theres really bot that much air comming out of the vents. I think something has been sucked into the works. How do you get to the blower fan or intake? Does the dash have to come out? Any tips will.be greatly appeciated

I have repaired the blower control module (a couple of times in the days before we knew that the root cause was due to fins being too short) and I was able to do this by just lowering the glove box.

The BCM sits on top of the climate duct and the blower is below it.

I have never had to access the blower itself and you may have to remove the glove box to do that.

Hi Catsgame,

You can easily access the blower motor housing by dropping the glove box, which isn't hard. The instructions have been posted in this forum and are also in the Workshop Manual, which you can download in six sections from the X350 How To Quick Links thread near the top of the home page of this X350 forum. You don't need to disconnect the electrical connectors on the rear of the glove box because the wiring harnesses are long enough that you can just rest the box on the floor while you work on the blower.

While I was rebuilding the BCM on our '04, out of curiosity I opened up the blower fan housing to take a peek, and I included a photo in my post at the link below. The blower fan is secured to the housing with just three screws:

Please keep us informed.

Cheers,

Don

You can remove the cabin filter from under the hood and stick your hand in there to touch the fan itself to check for debris. I had a lead there that would make noise. I however was running without a cabin filter. But Wirth a quick easy try.

That link to the thread with screw locations really saved the day. I removed the box, and located the motor/fan housing. It has 3 gold screws, the T30 or a flathead will work..one of the screws is closest to the console and cannot be seen. Remove that one FIRST or it wont work..if the other two screws are out the plastic will flex putting the hidden screw in a bind and it wont budge.(it only took me an hour to realize what was happening lol) i lowered the fan down, thinking it needed oiled since it was so loud. I found that it was packed full of Leaves. I had removed the air filter a few months ago because it had gotten wet and stunk and i forgot to replace it. Turns out the motor is fine. I sprayed some oil in there anyway and put everything back together. And input a new outside air filter in. It now blows 100 times more Air than it had and its very quiet. Thanks for the tips!
