Default Adaptive cruise control failed

The ACC on my 04 XJR failed and BBA Reman company says they can't repair it. Jag dealer wants $6k to replace it. Anyone know of alternatives? Is there an aftermarket option? Can a used one from same model be used (assuming I can find one). Is there another company that repairs those?

Thanks.

Default May have found an answer

I found a used ACC that appears to be for my car - correct VIN range - for $135 including shipping, with a 30 warranty. I wish there was such thing as capital numbers. Thats $135. The guy seemed to know his stuff. I ordered it and will let you all know as this saga progresses.

Has anyone ever retrofitted the ACC into a car that was not equipped?

Which component of it failed. How many bits are there?

Default What tming

Make that what timing!

I just dropped off my 04 XJR for the same thing at the dealer just today.
I have the dreaded Cruise Control Not available on the dash coming up along with the ACC Driver Interference going on and off constantly, also making the ACC come on and off. Will see what the dealer says next week, its still under warranty so will keep you guys posted.

Question Wow

Ok, just got a call from the dealer turns out for me its my Cruise Control Module, the part alone is $2800 ?? WTF, I never use Cruise Control or the ACC, they tell me that once that is replaced it will clear the ACC warnings I get. Thank G-D its still under warranty, a Factory Extended Warranty so they will go to the dealer tomorrow to "look and see" and authorize the work. Am just wondering, for those without warranty is there a way to disconnect both the ACC and Cruise control and not get those warning displays on the dashboard?

Smile Your not kidding...

Anyone? Ok so am hijacking this thread. So my Cruise Control Unit is being changed out, BUT once again I will ask for those who do not have a warranty. Is there a way to bypass the cruise control or the ACC. Just in case it happens again when the car is out of warranty? I never use either one of them... Anyone?

disconnecting won't clear the message. the system sees that as a module failing to communicate

Default Disconnecting

My XJR has rear, but not front, collision avoidance. When disconnected, the rear avoidance system quits blinking, but the yellow light and 'cruise control not available' message stays on. I left it disconnected till the new one arrives and put little piece of black tape over the yellow light. Not a perfect solution but better than having stuff blnking at you.

Default Dead end on the $135 ACC unit

The guy that said he had the ACC in stock called back a week later (after I inquired ast to shipping status) that he did not have the unit. He also called several suppliers who indicated they had one in stock, but it turns out that none of them did.

If you try searching for your own, VIN is very important to getting the right one.

Will let you know if/when I find one.

Default Bba

I.m on the second pass with BBA to repair the unit. Very nice people, but still don't have a functioning unit. Have also ordered a bone yard unit for $285. Will keep posted. Wonder if the unit from the dealer has any updates to prevent it from failing again.

Does anyone know how hard it would be to retrofit the ACC? That is one feature I would like. I have the rear park warning and regular cruise control.

BBA tried twice to fix mine. Cost me $180 each time for the dealer to tell me it didn't work. BBA finally said they couldn't fix it and refunded the money.

Fitz, why did the dealer charge $180 are you letting them do the install ? Apparently BBA US doesn't have much experience with these units, but BBA UK does, I was contemplating sending it there, till I found some wrecking yard units that are on their way. It's an early car G04665.

I installed the first one myself and it didn't work, so I calledBBA and they told me it had to be done by a dealer, so I took it to the dealer. The second time I was afraid they wouldn't cover the warranty if I tried it again myself so I took it directly to the dealer. Good luck on yours.

Default sucess

Well after a great deal of hunting I found an acc module in a boneyard from an 04 XJ8. $665 delivered, although it wasn't in the Vin range that was suppose to be compatible. I still can't believe this was plug & play. The unit looked nearly brand new. The only odd thing was that the number on my old unit was 2W93-9AA12-BD and the new one was 2W93-9AA12-BE I wonder what the difference is, or could this have been already replaced on the boneyard car ?

The -BE is a direct supersession to the -BD. You are good to go. The only thing is I think it really should be put in alignment mode by your dealer so it is sure to align itself properly. The vertical has to be set by the installer, the horizontal alignment it does itself during driving, after being set in that mode.

Attached explains.......

Cheers,

Default Thanks steve

I was thinking the same thing about realigning the unit, but if everything seems to be performing flawlessly, why screw with it, especially if it's a Jag ? Where is this learning algorithm held, in the module, ecm or elsewhere ? and does it continue to adjust ? Thanks again for the info.
