When I purchased my 2008 XJL the driver's side fog lamp assembly was missing completely. After searching for months with no success to find the assembly online, I went to the dealer. Those rip-off artists wanted $500 for parts and labor. I walked out laughing at them.
So I went to a customization shop here in Ft Lauderdale to discuss options and decided on LED strips. It took them 3 hours to remove the passenger side fog light assembly, craft the mesh housing
and install the strips and I paid slightly less than $400. And I LOVE THE LOOK!!!
We don't get much fog down here in South Florida and I've only had them on since Monday, but they are certainly much brighter than the old halogen fog lights at night.
I've had the idea of doing the same to our '04 X350, but hadn't gotten any farther than finding plenty of LED driving lamp options on eBay. The prices are low enough that one could afford to experiment with several different types.
Now that I know how good it looks, I'm going to get more serious about devising a DIY conversion for our car.
Question nlt,,,, are they wired to the Fog lamp switch, or just come on with the lights?..
They are wired to the fog lamp switch. But luckily for the Jags I can leave the fog lights on and they turn on whenever the headlights are on. I don't have to turn them on each time I start the car.
I retrofitted HIDs to my fog lights went 6000k
I did it when I overhauled my headlights fitted new HID globes and ballasts at the same time also LED Parker globes all in 6000K so all the lights have the same colour it was an expensive job but looks great

You must leave your lights off (not on auto mode) or this is an x358 thing?

I bought a H1 kit from eBay with digital ballast looked for the smallest and cheapest kit think it was 59$US zip tied ballast to the rear of the bumper as I had to remove the bumper to clean and fix the headlights
I am looking at a pair of these for another carhttp://http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2X...item463f709e0d
I also retrofitted HIDs to my fog lights. I got my kit from The Retrofit Source. They have a good quality kit if you want something a little better quality than Ebay stuff. Attached is a photo after I finished the passenger side. As you can see in the pic, the new fog light is actually brighter than the regular low beam HID. It now like driving with 2 sets of low beam. I will be upgrading the headlights next. I just need to pull the lens out and measure it so I can order a clear lens.
