Default Adding Powerfold option

I researched this a while back, but couldn't find a definitive answer. My 05 XJ8L has reverse dipping mirrors. Would these be wired for adding the powerfold option? I know that I would have to add the master window switch with the button for folding the mirrors, and possibly a relay. Does anyone know of anything else?

I have had a few instances recently where they would have come in handy, so if I can, I would like to do the mod. Thanks in advance for any information that you may be able to provide!

CAVEAT: I have not looked at the wiring diagram.

That said, the wire harness(es) very likely have provision for it, and there is probably a socket for any fuses or relays.

I'd expect the major spend to be for the new mirror system, complete.

A tilt servo is a tiny thing with a trivial task.

A servo that has enough stones and appropriate drivetrain to fold and unfold the mirrors, stand up to manhandling as well.. is separate, and a whole different grade of turnip.

I do not wish to even take my XJ8-L anywhere so tight I might NEED to fold the mirrors. And do not.

Thanks Bill! I agree, I honestly hate parking my XJ8L anywhere but my garage. Even in my garage though, it would be nice to fold the mirrors in, as I use my garage quite a bit.

I am going to keep digging, and will post up what I find. Thanks!

Actually you can buy the new Jaguar power fold mirrors for around $300 each---you just have to transfer the rear cover and the mirror glass, both of which are relatively easy. Then you would need the mirror switch.

This assumes that your car already is wired.

Thanks Six Rotors!

I am trying to figure out how to tell the difference between powerfold and standard mirrors. There is a part number under the mirror "015712", but it seems that it is the same part number on mirrors that are said to be powerfold, as well as ones that are not. I checked my mirrors, they also have "015712" stamped on them.

Since my XJ8L had the reverse dipping mirror option, I thought they might be the powerfold as well, just without the controls. I may have to take one of my mirrors apart, just to confirm or deny that they have the option.

Thanks! Those pics definitely helped! Unfortunately for me, I guess I do not have the powerfold mirrors. I just popped my mirror lens off:

Looks like I will have to get a set of mirrors along with the switch if I want to do the mod. Thanks again!

They are a neat feature--mine are set to fold when I lock the vehicle. They unfold when I unlock.
