Default Advice on a 06 XJ8

Hello everybody I eyeing an 06 jaguar xj8 with 120,000 miles. Everything looks good and it runs great but I am afraid of realibilty issues since I had horrible experiences with Mercedes and bmw. The car does have "cats failure" light. Which I believe has to do with the suspension but don't see anything wrong. Can you guys who have experience and knowledge about this car give me some advice. Thank you !!

Have a look at the above very recent thread. XJ8 has similar suspension to XJR.

Default 2006 XJ8 or 2007 XK?
I'm deciding to purchase one of these two cars and am looking for feedback, just based on value. A 2007 Jaguar XK, 85,000 miles, $18,500. Or. A 2006 Jaguar XJ, 58,000 miles, $12,000. Both essentially one owner, near-new condition, maintained at obsession level. There are buyers waiting behind me, so I have to decide quickly. Thanks for any thoughts!! Here are the links. XJ. less miles, less money and I personally don't care for convertibles.
But I would also be looking for an XJR.

Welcome to the forum bystrange,

I've moved your question from X308 to X350 forum. Your other identical post in X150 forum is in the right place.

A 2006 XJ is the later aluminium bodied X350 (2003 - 2009) and not the earlier steel bodied X308 (1997 - 2003).

If it were an XK coupe I say its a step up...But 300 HP for a car that looks like an Aston Martin is a bit sad...XJR X350 if you like lots of power...In that price range you can get one bad *** "R" with low miles! Nix a regular XJ at your price point...If your more low key snag a XK coupe...They look amazing!

By the way the line to buy those cars are not as long as you think...The 07 is a bit pricey...I know of a minty 07 black coupe you can get for 18.5 with 25K less miles...Cash is king these days...Stay the course...Don't rush!!!

The reason the price is low is the cost of maintenance/repairs. The only way to own these cars is the have an extended warranty. The suspension most likely will be the money pit. Around 10 years, you'll find yourself replacing lots of expensive suspension parts. No doubt the other repacement items will be replacing parts due to vacumn leaks (hopefully not the valley hose on the SC models), tranny is seal for life (100K miles), and other luking gremlins.
You'll need to budget $1 to $2K per year to keep it on the road.
Good luck.
