Default Advice on removing PCV pipe from back of engine (4.2 SC)

I want to replace the PCV valve (the black disc on the right bank near the front of the engine )and the pipe that connects it to the back of the engine near the throttle body I as suspect they're faulty for various reasons.

Access to the pipe connected near to the throttle body is proving very difficult.

Can anyone offer any advice? I've removed part of the bulk head that contains the cabin filter so I can get my hand easily to the back of the throttle body by my hands are still a few inches away from accessing the clips to release the pipe as its just so crammed in there.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Matt

Got it sorted. I just used a bit of brute force pulling hard on the pipe. The connector broke allowing the the pipe to be removed.

New parts now fitted but it was an extremely fiddly job.

I found oil in the old pipe which I am assuming shouldn't have been there.

Default Problem fixed

I thought I'd post an update as this might be useful for other people.

The reason I replaced the PCV was due to the fact I was getting blue smoke out the exhaust on start up and under heavy acceleration after a long periods of gentle cruising. These symptoms to me suggested the valve seals were worn but I did some research and looked at the PCV first. I could see oil on the outlet which connects to a pipe, this goes to a port just between the throttle body and supercharger.

Replacing the PCV and pipe for good measure has fixed the problem. I think oil was being sucked in to the pipe when the engine was running, it would then dribble down in to the intake part of the engine over night when the car was parked up. In the morning I guess all this oil is then burnt off which explains the blue smoke on start up. There is no more blue smoke on heavy acceleration now either.

I'm counting myself lucky that I didn't have to replace any valve seals.

Cheers

Matt

You have solved the problem but I have found that a good kickdown on a

straight bit of road solves the problem too.

I may have the same blue smoke on startup at times as well on my 2004 XJR. Perhaps I should change the PCV valve as well?

The valve cost me £35 direct from a Jaguar garage and was very easy to replace. I would swap it. The pipe was another £35 and a real pain to replace. I changed it as I thought it might have been cracked causing a vacuum leak.

I don't think the pipe is worth replacing however removing it did show me that oil was definitely working its way through to just below the throttle body and getting sucked in. If your pipe is in a similar condition and you only changed the valve I would assume blue smoke would still occur for a little while until its all been drawn through. Don't quote me on that though
