After market Tire pressure sensor, TPMS learn mode/procedure question
#21
Yep, the US versions are 315mhz and you just need to drive about 10 - 20 miles. If the light goes out, you have your answer. If not, keep driving to the shop:-)

I'll be trying one more thing out of desperation, some people say to drive 15 minutes at 20 mph over not going under 20mph or else it resets the clock to zero and the process has to be started all over again,, if that doesn't work I'll be heading to the shop sadly. Most cars you just drive a few miles and dash lights go out,, Fu****g Jaguar it's like they purposely have to try and be complicated forcing you to go to the dealership for dumb sh** so they can say they're different..

Truthfully who really knows at this point its all twilight zone material with everyone like deer in headlights on this subject, Maybe I'll go watch Blair Witch and light some incense over a ouija board and hope that fixes it. Instead of an XJL in the driveway should've been a Ford escort at least the lights would've been off by now...

Hardly deer in the headlights. No need to insult people because you're frustrated. People are trying to help.
I've changed TPMS on both my 05 XJ Super V8 and my 07 X150. In both cases, I just drove and the light went off as I've indicated. Also a tech gave the same recommendation in 2014 on this thread.
So to get technical for you, yes if you have SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnosis), which is Jaguar's software, you can enter the product ID and register your modules into the car and the service manual instructs as such. It's not necessary though.
That's it. Now you can take it to any tire shop and they can tell you if each sensor is transmitting. All tire shops have a tool for that. MOST tire shops won't charge to test it as it will take them all of ten minutes to do so. Otherwise take it to the dealer.

Yes I think I was just being funny and frustrated at the same time, of course people are trying to help just seems like everyone has a different opinion on this, can get frustrating. Mine being an '11 I think all the new body styles changed in '10 I think so because yours are a little older maybe it's just plug and play and your lights turn right off when you drive a few miles. You mentioned the SDD program registering the product ID to the service manual then you say it's not necessary so not sure what you meant by that. Early this weekend im taking it down to Ted Wiens the manager says he has to take the two brand new OEM TPMS in the back I just put in he has to break the tire down pull the codes off put the tires back together and register the computer to marry it to the car and then pretty much do the same to the front and it should work. I think he said that's the same thing as taking it to the dealership...

OEM and "aftermarket" are not the same.
Genuine - in jaguar box from dealer, mfg by VDO
OEM - in VDO box, mfg by VDO
Aftermarket - mfg by unknown, or third party.
Genuine, and OEM TPMS sensors are programed for the cars system. No programing/cloning required.
Aftermarket TPMS mfgs do not have access to data to preprogram like Genuine/OEM, so they have to be "cloned" not programed. This cloning does not always work well with all car manufacturers.(it's just not a Jag thing).
Many, many of us on the forum have been down this road with TPMS issues, and have resolved them with Genuine or OEM sensors. Put them in, drive the car, and most of the time they register with in 50 ft.
Keep in mind that the X350 had and still has some of the most sophisticated systems in the auto industry. Jaguar was way ahead of the times when they designed the X350. How many cars in 2006 had adaptive cruise control? Our cars came loaded with almost everything the entire auto industry had to offer and more, but in one package, the X350. At the time it was the most advanced and expensive car Jaguar ever produced, and we are driving them for less than the cost of a new Ford Escort.
In 2006 Rolls Royce didn't offer "Adaptive Cruise Control". With this technology even fairly dated in today's world, there is a price to pay. But every time I drive my SV8, it's well worth the price.
The people on this forum have been there and done that, it is wise to accept their experiences. How many tire guys/shops have worked on Jags for years?

My situation is this at the moment: I have 2 new unprogramed OEM sensors in the back that were just installed however they weren't programmed, just ordered specifically for my make and year car and I have 2 brand new out of the box aftermarket sensors in my hand that need to still be installed in the two front tires. Given that situation do they all need to be cloned or just the front 2 aftermarkets and then drive the car and the lighs should go out Correct?

I can't confirm on your car as it's a x351, not a x350. The folks in the X351 forum as stated by Partick the Cat would know better as they own that model. Cloning and programing are entirely different. Once again, the OEM cannot and do not need "programing".When cloning, they clone your aftermarket sensor to mimic the real thing. This is done using a know working OEM sensor. The dealer software is used to program the car for other functions, not cloning. You cannot program an aftermarket sensor, only clone one. As stated prior to this, not many people on the forum have had good luck cloning our TPMS's. They all seem to end up with genuine or OEM and solve the issue immediately. You get what you pay for in this situation. Continue if you wish, but the aftermarket route may end up in futility. This is not a "Jaguar thing" or "dealer only fix". The folks on the X350 forum have shared their experiences and their solutions. You may get more specific info on your model from the correct X350 forum.

And to totally clear ... the 'cloning' software doesn't work from the SDD through the car, it's nothing to do with Jaguar/Ford; it's through a separate piece of kit that the sensor supplier (ie trader) should have to clone a 'universal' sensor into a 'specific' one.

Mark in Maine just trying to get a handle on this, so your saying that if I bought 4 new Oem or VDO Tpm's, NOT aftermarket, that they do not need to be cloned or programed and just need to be installed and car driven and dash lights should go out correct?. I wont use the word program as that seems to be the totally wrong word to use in this topic.. However if you use aftermarket ones they DO need to be cloned to mimic the real thing correct?.
I have all new wheels and am starting from total scratch on my XJL now trying to get these dash lights off. I just installed 2 new Oem's in the rear from Discount Tire (nothings been programmed yet only installed for plug and play), and bought 2 new aftermarket ones for the fronts still in hand haven't installed yet. Ted Wiens Firestone said bring my car to them they will read the 2 rear oem's already installed (maybe break tires down to read I don't know) and take my 2 aftermarkets in hand, program/clone them and install them in front and lights should go out... Does this sound feasible? I know you mention Jag doesn't like aftermarket so not sure if I will buy 2 other new Oems and bring them to Firestone instead of the 2 aftermarkets and start out that way for the fronts. They said aftermarket is fine as they do Mercedes and Landrover with aftermarkets and its just fine. When I sold my original set of 4 I was stupid and should have broken the wheels down and kept my 4 old Tpms already programmed and just installed on new set, problem solved!!. Ive been to 7 different places and no luck but this place seems to know what they are doing so I'm saying a prayer. NOT taking it to dealership they have to use all their own new Tpms $150 a piece so out the door like like $1000 to solve this problem, Not gonna happen.Ugh!!
