Question Aftermarket Brake Pads

I am considering the following brake pads - does anyone have experience with any of these pads - then I would appreciate it if you would share. I want to replace the OEM on all corners of the car due to the obscene amount of brake dust these creates

Centric Posi Quiet (semi-metallic) brake pads (~100$/F&B) - very affordable.
EBC Redstuff (~220$/F&B).
Napa Ultra Premium (~248$/F&B)

I don't drive hard, but I like pads that are biting hard. I have gathered from this forum that the Akabono's does not bite hard (my conclusion might not be right) which is why they are not on the list. I would appreciate excellent durability.

Thanks
Martin

My experience with the Akebonos is that they feel soft until you *really* bear down on the brakes at which point they grip feircely. It's a bit odd at first but they are actually easy to modulate.

Cheers

Same here Akebono's very little dust and stopping is great! The best deal I found was on Amazon with free shipping.

hate to harp, but akebono euros on my xk8 work just great...not as much bite as the OEM or red stuff, but they have performed very well for all my needs...and VERY little dust.

Change to ceramics. NO brake dust. The OEMs are terrible at producing brake dust!!

Thanks unfortunately per Akabono's website they don't have pads for the front for a 06 only for the rear - is that right?

Centric Posi Quiet ceramics work great on my 02 XJ8VDP. What model Jag do you have?

It is a XJ8 2006. I noticed that the Posi Quiet also comes as ceramic but for my model only semi metallic.

Quite a few on the site have used EBD Redstuff with great results!

me personally? I fitted them onto my X type and noticed a much improved difference in stopping power and reduced brake dust too.....all good as far as I'm concerned

I fitted Akenbos front and rear - Bled the brakes and it does feel soft with bite when you need it. - Very little dust. I just bought a set for my wife's R350 as the dust really does annoy me. The dust, Oregon Winter and my laziness ruined my chrome wheels on my c320. I learned the hard way

I would recommend them!! Wheels always look great.

I can't seem to find where to buy these Akebonos. Amazon.com only seems to have the rears for a 2006 VDP. Does anyone have a recommendation of where to purchase these?

Alan,
Akabono's web catalog do not have front pads for 2006 don't know why for sure - I think the brake design for the front was revised in 2006.
Seem like all have great experience with these Akabono pads, but they are not available for 06 - how irritating Well the EBC redstuff is good too if ceramic is the way to stop , little bit more pricey. I am affraid the Centric Posi quiet since they are semi-metallic will make too much dust(visible) and the Posi quiet is not available as ceramic for the XJ8.
My shop raves about the Napa Ultra Premium stating they never have had a single complain and never replaced them as long as they have used they(long time) I have a hard time finding any independent reviews/opinions about them though.

If the napa's are ceramic, sure...go with em. I've had good luck getting Akebono to answer my questions via email when I had a part number conflict on my pads...can't remember if it was the front or rears, but they simply replied back, 'you need EUR###for the front, and EUR### for the rear, as your OEM part numbers are JLM#### and JLM####.

If you've got a few days to wait, give that a shot.

I think EBC is the only supplier that makes ceramic pads for both front and rear of the 06 XJ8. Go figure!

I called Akebono and Yes I can confirm that Akebono do not supply brake pads for the front of the XJ 06. If it should be ceramic - for me it will - there are two brands EBC and Napa.

I currently have Akebono on my 04 XJR and I like them! My next pair would be Duralast premium gold if they are available. Cheap and really good pads.

I did EBC Reds all around and i am not happy with them. I bet you will be unhappy too. I will change my rears to Akebono & fronts to what ever convinces me on this forum. I also purchased R1concepts premium slotted/drilled rotors for the install. Oh by the way look at Posi Quiets site they claim their semi-metallic pads are cleaner (lowest dust) than their ceramics??????? WTF seems like all of us must have it backwards............

Lol...napa golds are the ones i used a few years ago and the braking was terrible, yes the wheels stayed clean. But when the pads dont even bite hard enough to activate the abs unless its raing and theres a noticible increase in braking distance. They left me feeling uneasy about a panic brake situation and i finally took them off after few months and tossed them. I went to ebc redstuff and they brake better than anything ive used before from light brake bite, to heavy hard trail braking and never fade. And i have braked from 80 to standing more than a few times panic braking on the freeway. And yes the wheels stay clean for weeks. Ive also put akebonos on customer cars and personally, i dont like the soft bite under everyday braking, to the point i personally would NOT use them on mine. I have been so happy with the redstuff than i changed all my vehicles to ebc
