RE: Air Compressor Replacement
no you can drop off the 3 posts from the bottom and wheel arch area, Jguar just dropped the r n r time from 1.1 to .7 since you dont have to pull the bumper cover.. Damn people cant run enough time to cover the estimated time, and or open their mouths on how easy a waythey found to change it. always dropping times, never increasing any.....

RE: Air Compressor Replacement
I am getting the air suspension faultwarning with no symptoms. It goes away and later comes back more frequently now. I am only assuming it is the pump not filling the tank fast enough. I hate to let the dealer get his hands on it. Will an OBD II reader pick up the codes for it?

this will let you drop it down. watch where all the springs and collars fall to, if you loose some the new one comes with everything. To ease reinstallation coat the studs with grease and slips the collars onto them to hold in place while you reinstall the pump. the springs go underneath the pump or youll end up hearing it throughout the car everytime it turns on

Brutal,
Thanks for the detailed info. It will much easier to remove the inner fender and the cover under the front end. I plan to buy a rebuilt pump from Coventry West. I have noticed that the light comes on either immediately or three miuntes after starting when it does come on. Usually on cold mornings but it is still sporadic. I'll try to keep the springs together.

RE: Air Compressor Replacement
Hi, I'm new here and have a similar problem. Maybe you could spare a moment of your time and offer an opinion?
No obvious physical symptom, however I'm seeing the display, "air suspension fault", at almost exactly half a mile after start up. Its a 50% likelihood of appearing, but if it doesn't arrive at that moment, then it won't appear at all during the remainder of the journey - whether that is 1mile or 300 miles. It doesn't appear at all if the car is idling, only once Idrive that distance. Would you think its the compressor at fault, taking too long to build up pressure? I do stress that at idle the fault message will not appear.
Have just retuned from a visit to a (non Jaguar) garage who tell me there is no stored error codes despite the message on the driver's display. They are an independant Porsche specialist who tell me they have the relevant equipment to read the Jaguar systems - but maybe they dont!?
Both of you guys, Brutal and Oldmots appear to be knowledgeable on the topic - could you give me your opinion, please?
I took the car in due to a slight rumble, I thought this was a front wheel bearing. The chaps at the garage tell me the bearings are silent, but the inside of the (4month and 3,000 mile old) front tyres are misshapen which are supposedly causing the rumble which is worse at 15mpg but still quietly audible at 60mph.
Their thoughts are that maybe the suspension is working hard to compensate for vibrations caused by problematic tyres and is then causing the suspension message... I can feel a very slight vibrantion when I drive, although it is so subtle I could be imagining it since seeing the message!
Hmmm....
I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer! I'd love to go to a real Jag garage but have recently lost my job so have to look after the pennies!! The Porsche specialist didnt charge me for the one hour labour either because I know the owner from the old school days and he's being kind, or because they want me to come back an buy GBP£450 worth of two tyres from them!

RE: Air Compressor Replacement
Without any codes, it's only a guess, but the compressor is probably at fault. If it were a leak, the car would drop or give a Vehicle Too Low warning. It is interesting that the light goes out while driving, mine goes out only after sitting about an hour and a restart.

RE: Air Compressor Replacement
I'm sorry, whenI mentioned driving and the warning light, I was trying to say that:
I will start the car in the morning: no warning at idle, whether for 10 seconds or ten minutes
then, once I drive for half a mile, then the warning light will come ON.
It will stay on for the remainder of the journey. Until I stop the car.
However, if it doesn't come on then, I will not see a message at all.
Albeit without the code, does this still ft the bill. The other owners' comments suggest their error message is caused due to time taken buildin pressure in the resevoir. Surely if this was the case with my car, i would see the message whilst at idle?
Thanks again!

finally got around to taking the car to a dealer.
£700 of diagnosis(!!) later, they think the Air Suspension computer/controller is faulty as they are unable to "calibrate it". After a battery hard-reset the car reset tself and the car drove 5 inches above normal, as if it was stuck in transportation mode.
the jag tech said when he popped in a controller from another car, the vehicle dropped down to the proper level.
he's now fitted a new controller and after a week is still "having trouble" with the calibration.
My car's been of the road for ages and so I'm stuck in a Volvo loaner!
Any thoughts, anyone?

You and me are in a similar scenario, I dont get any fault lights or warning but my car is stuck on a certain level and it wont raise or lower. My car is low but I saw a car at the shop that had a leak in the suspension and it was on the ground. I will be bringing it in on monday for a diag session, I hope they are able to communicate with the computer. I think the Air ride module controls other things too. I hope a reset of some kind will fix the problem. I dont think its a mechaical problem with my car but an electronic issue.
All of this happened after I had the battery unplugged for two three days.

Picked up my car from the dealer today, our friend Brutal took excellent care of it. Replaced the right side head lamp burner and the air suspension compressor, both under warranty. I guess I need to look into extending the warranty as the SE will expire shortly and a problem under the customer pay plan could be costly.

Hi HBZ , I had air suspension problems similar to yours, over 12 months or so the warning message gradually got more frequent and the ride quality got gradually worse, yes, I started to feel a bit of a vibration.
The tyres were fine though.
The dealer changed one of the rear shockers first, this cured the "cat warning message" but the " suspension" message persisted.
With further work and testing they eventually changed the compressor. This solved the problem and , now, after maybe 8000miles or so, the car drives so smoothly, so pleased with the result.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi there
Following the replacement of the control unit and a battery "hard reset", the car now sits correctly. The tech tells me the compressor passes their tests and is as good as new (maybe it was replaced by previous owner?)
The fault message hasnt appeared since (early days) which I'm very pleased about. Although the ride isn't the smoothest - I can probably blame 19" wheels for that. Its pretty good, but not a patch on my old 308 on 17"s!
I can now try and work out why I only get cold air out of the drivers side aircon! Its no good for drivers vision on a wintery morning! Not to mention needing gloves when I drive! But thats another story for another thread, I suppose!

Bad news!
I spoke to soon!
>£700 poorer and my fault is still exactly the same!
About 0.3mile or 0.5km after starting a journey the Air Suspension Fault is still there!
It always was intermittent (approx 40% chance of appearing)
So, they have "tested" the compressor and replaced the control unit (under the back seats)
Still no luck!
I've booked it back in for next week. Should I ask them for a full refund - I asked them to repair the fault and £750 later its still the same. Or, will they insist that I am not paying for what i asked for which was a repair, I'm paying for diagnosis?
