Air-Heat Blower/Fan suddenly stopped working?

My 2004 Xj8 w/66,000 mi (as of yesterday) air conditioning fan/blower suddenly stopped moving air? Turned system off did not restart. The Off/On and all the associated buttons and digital displays appear to be working. Whats wrong? I suspect its a fuse or relay? Can any one help point me the right direction? Just take to mechanic?

The fuse is F7, 40A, rear/trunk fuse box.
There is a relay too, R1 in the same fuse box.
R1 is the one on the far left with F7 three fuses above on the same side.
It could also be the resistors mounted on top of the blower motor. If they fail you will see the symptom you describe. It's a pita to get to though as you need to remove the glove box and scrape a few knuckles dropping the motor out.

See the posting by Glendoramike from 2011. It's a really clear explanation of how to do this job. The hard part is removing the glove box to get to it.The p/n is C2C39577 (cost $200+/- on ebay) if you want to replace it with a Jaguar OEM part, or you can rebuild it per the instructions of Don B for $20 if you're handy with a soldering iron. A third alternative is to use a Landrover part #LR031677 at a cost of about $20. It is reported by one member that it works, although it does not have the larger heat sink that is on the new Jaguar replacement part. I bought one today and will post how it does when I get it installed. The risk is that it will ultimately fail like the original, but I got 177,000 miles on my 2004 XJ8 before it failed, so if the new one lasts as long, I am likely to be well entrenched in a nursing home by then so I'm going to take the risk.

You can be reasonably sure that the blower control module had failed, and a new one will cost something like $200.00 on eBay. See the 'How To' quick links for reference, and go through the threads describing the blower control module diagnosis, repair and replacement.

I also agree, it almost certainly is the blower control module (BCM). The original BCM had too small a heat sink, which eventually fries a transistor. The new BCM's have a large heat sink.
The glove box must be mostly removed. About 6-8 screws hold it in place. Depending on the model, you might have wiring for light and 12V power. When I did mine, I left those wires attached.
Once the glove box is out or mostly out of the way, you can reach in and feel the main air plenum running horizontally up near the top of the dash, about 1' behind the dash. The BCM is attached with two screws on the top of the plenum, and has an electrical connector. If you have the new BCM in hand, it is fairly easy to find/feel, and exactly where the screws are. I had to use a screw bit driver with a small socket wrench, as there is only an inch or two between the top of the screws and the under side of the dash.
I had never done this repair before, and I had it all done in about 30 minutes. It was a pretty easy repair job.

Unfortunately the Landrover part did not work for me. It looked exactly the same as the original part, but I do not know about the electronic parts inside. It may have been defective, but I do not know. I found a Jaguar part for $55 so I decided not to take the time to order another and try it again. The Jaguar part worked and my fan is fully operational. Changing the part is a 2 minute job--only two screws--but you will need a low profile Phillips sideways screwdriver as there is only a couple inches above the screws to work with. The hard part is getting the glove box in and out---it just takes patience and perseverance. I may be particularly clumsy, so it took me an hour to get it back in. I finally figured out to insert it with the left side 6 inches further in the opening and slide it to the left as I was pushing in the right side. If somebody has a better way, I'd love to hear it ......just in case. Sorry I can't confirm whether the Landrover part works as it is only about $20. If I had it to do over, if the price of the Jaguar part was excessive I would try the Landrover part again and just assume that the first one was defective--all you would lose if it doesn't work is a little time.

I bought two "new" modules for land rover. They are incidental to oem Jaguar and both worked. Hint, you do not have to remove the entire glove box and let it hanging and do not disconnect the two tension cables. . The first one installed took forever to put glove box back. The second took less than 30 minutes.
